Today we’d like to introduce you to Shevonne Clark.
Shevonne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As far back as I remember, I wanted to be involved in making films and apart of the film industry. I had been in the industry of films since the age of 16. During my time in college, I participated in theater and acted in haunted houses. It wasn’t too long that I was inspired to purchase my own camera. Alongside my brother early on we made some home movies, but I became interested in photography. I was employed at a Lifetouch Inc. for years and there, I gained valuable knowledge that helped me in the long run. It allowed me a great understanding of troubleshooting cameras and technology and helped build my eye for fine details. Photography is a great medium of creativity and for years, I have taken my camera with me everywhere I go. I find beauty in the simplest things, and just love experimenting with different lighting and other techniques to continue to add to my toolbox.
Has it been a smooth road?
I feel like every creative has growing pains. I want to continue this? Is this what my passion is? Can I build a life doing this? And I have asked myself these questions. My largest undertaking is having the confidence to express myself creatively without apologizing for it. Others have told me my work is great and have made me feel big and now I am working on believing it as much as they say it.
We’d love to hear more about Superstar Visuals.
Superstar Visuals is both photography and videography. My journey started with photography and I started shooting videos and have self-taught myself how to edit. I personally love taking pictures of children and during any of my travels. Videography has landed me with companies locally where I help to provide visuals for their brands, I have done work for GrindTime Fitness a local gym here in Detroit, working with this gym owner my work has been featured on our local news stations along with BET Networks.
Ettn Good, a food vlogging company, has worked on YouTube and has been featured in our local newspaper and Salon J. Marie, who has been nominated for awards locally like “Best in Black” Detroit. I am most proud of growing and changing with the companies that I have been working with for years. Watching them grow their business and being there to assist them creatively getting the message across to their customers is the most rewarding. I go above and beyond for my clients; I am passionate and understanding and I have been told that my turnaround time is amazing from all of them.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Detroit. There is beauty around every corner if you just look. I have been blessed to be connected to some very amazing people in my city and they have given me countless opportunities to learn and grow in business and creatively. I don’t really dislike anything in Detroit; I just miss things. I feel like we need more creative spaces for our youth to learn and we need more space for creatives to create. It’s hard out here, and I hope one day to create that space that provides a safe environment for people to learn and grow.
