Today we’d like to introduce you to Shon Gables.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a first-generation high school graduate, college graduate, MBA graduate and graduate of the school of hard knocks 😊.
As a child, I was the last generation in my family to pick peppers, melons and harvest peanuts. My siblings and I were like migrant farmers. My mother’s biggest dream for her seven children were to graduate from high school. She never did.
But where my mother lacked in education, she was a great teacher of faith. I immediately knew it was my key to breaking generations of mediocrity. I knew education was the foundation. Hard work was the engine. Never giving up – regardless of the obstacles was the fuel.
Currently, I am a journalist, but inside me is a billionaire job creator, determined to provide jobs, opportunities and wealth advancement.
Sound impossible? Of course, it does. But so was becoming a news anchor 20 years ago, when three separate times along my career path, I was told my career was over. Yes, it was difficult to rebuild and bounce back. But what’s harder squashing my ego or harvesting peanuts, in 90-degree weather, no shade and dust caked to my body for 10 to 12 hours… and still broke? I’ll take squash ego for 9 million, Alex 😊
My path ONLY requires me to utilize the God-given gifts I was birthed with. My faith is what directs the path.
I owe alot of my tenacity in this crazy world to Bryant Gumbel on the TODAY show and reading books about television executive Brandon Tartikoff. I dream of doing the same. Anchoring newscasts and developing game-changing TV shows, scripting and developing shows that change the narrative, entertain and generate a legacy of wealth. On rough days, I daydream. If they did it. So can I.
I’m getting there, by putting one foot in front of the other. The teacher comes when the student is ready. They always do. It’s why I’m at where I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
The greatest growth comes from challenge. Every single major growth arc in my life was birthed in difficult seasons. Some I created, others I did not.
I’ve learned… if you fail. Learn from it. Try your best to not repeat. Advance.
And take the time enjoy great seasons.
Seasons change. Embrace it.
