Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Booker.
Hi Sierra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my makeup journey back in 2019. I initially got into makeup because of my mom and watching her do her own for so many years, but over time once I actually began playing with makeup myself, I slowly grew fond of it! I had a bad experience with makeup for a special occasion in high school and that’s what pushed me to start doing other’s makeup. I wanted to help others feel beauty inside and out and that’s truly what matters most in this journey and has helped me to continue going! I am where I am today because of my clients, 100%. I truly feel that if it wasn’t for makeup I would not be here today because makeup allowed me to redirect my fears and allow my creativity to take over. I truly needed that. Over the years, I have grown such a beautiful clientele and that only continues to grow! It helps me to know that, although I can’t please everyone, for the people I do come across and help feel their absolute best is the most genuine and pure feeling I have ever felt.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been hard! I would be lying if I said everything is just smooth sailing because being an entrepreneur comes with so many struggles and obstacles! One of my biggest struggles were the “what ifs.” “What if I’m not good enough?” “what if people don’t support me?” “What if no one likes my work?” It was something I battled with constantly and it kept me depressed until one day, I realized my worth as an artist. I accepted that God did not give me the gift to let it go to waste! What matters most is if YOU believe you can do it and YOU believe it is worth it. I had to learn that support follows, respect is earned, and all you can do is put yourself out there! Whoever likes your work will support, but you can’t keep allowing nonsupporters to keep you in a place of doubt.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a makeup artist. I personally like to say that I specialize in the “art” aspect of it! I am all about creativity and bold! I am most known for bold, creative looks. If you were to ask anyone that same question, they would most likely agree! Although, on a regular day, my natural & soft glams are truly most booked! I am most proud of my growth. I have given up, failed, wanted to end it all, but I kept going. I feel that says a lot about my character and the message that I’m trying to spread because I am an inspiration for so many people and don’t even realize it! And that’s the goal!! I want to inspire, motivate, and push others to achieve whatever it is you want in life despite who follows! What sets me apart is me. My energy, my aura, my determination, and my courage to do something new. I never scared to create something new or odd that will make you question it! Currently, I would say something I am most known for and has brought a lot of clientele my way is toosii! I had a client, with my natural full face glam, completely stop the show so that he could shout out the artist because he felt her makeup was that beautiful and honestly, that changed the game for me! So many people stopped looking at me as the young 20 years old doing makeup but actually began to respect my work!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be when me and my youngest sister would play with barbie dolls and I would make new things for them. It varied from clothes, purses, pillows, headbands, and etc. I learned to sew at a young age and making clothes for my dolls would honestly be the highlight of my days. I probably didn’t stop making clothes for them until 7th grade, especially since my sister was still younger. It helped me really show my creativity and my skills, so, since a child I knew I wanted to doing something artistic!
