Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Green.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am from New Orleans, Louisiana. I started singing at about seven years of age in the church at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, I was a part of the youth choir and the mass choir. I fell in love with music hearing my first Whitney Houston song titled “I Will Always Love You” from there, I began singing at family house parties, gatherings, etc. I entered a couple of talent shows at school and some plays. I also do theater work as well, singing characters of course. So at age 18, the worst hurricane of the United States hurricane Katrina forced me and my city out and I landed in Oklahoma City for nine years. I started looking for work and stopped going to college cause I had to survive. Every job I had I knew it wasn’t the life I wanted I just knew I had to work. So I picked up some vocal classes for about two months to find out I didn’t need lessons; I needed experience. So I did odd shows at libraries, bars, karaoke and once the Oklahoma state fair. Few years later I desire more work and a band in my own city and I did just that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The life of a musician/ entertainer is never smooth. I have dealt with people stealing money from my band, being a female leader never getting the top gigs unless I have a man to speak for me or just a few.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer-entertainer. I sing live with my six-piece band called Sierra Green & The Soul Machine in New Orleans three times a week live on Frenchmen street. I specialize in giving great vocal entertainment and making people dance. I’m proud of the fact that I can bring people back to certain times that were happy with my music as well as cover music. What sets me apart from do many others is I don’t give up, I don’t allow anyone to control what I can or cannot do with my art.
What’s next?
I am currently working on my 2nd album. My first album. Can be find on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Music and YouTube at Sierra Green and the Soul Machine. I’m looking forward to working and collaborating with other bands and artists and creating more original material.
