Today we’d like to introduce you to Skylar Weeks.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Zany’s has been a part of the Newnan community for over fifteen years, and my journey with the business started when I was just sixteen years old working as a receptionist at the original location. From the beginning, I fell in love with the environment and the families we served, but I also saw the potential for something even bigger. When the opportunity came to take over the business, I knew I wanted to reimagine Zany’s as more than just a kids salon.
My vision was to create a fun, welcoming space where the entire family could feel comfortable and cared for. Under my leadership, Zany’s evolved from a kids only salon into an all ages destination offering hair services, birthday parties, play experiences, camps, and events. Every step of the growth has been guided by a simple mission to make Zany’s a one stop place for family fun, self care, and memorable experiences while staying deeply rooted in the Newnan community. As the salon grew, I kept listening to what families were asking for and what the community was missing. That led to opening Zany’s Play World so kids could play, celebrate birthdays, and burn energy in a clean, safe, thoughtfully designed space. Running both businesses side by side taught me how much operations, consistency, and customer experience matter when you are serving families who trust you with their kids.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like most small businesses, especially ones built from the ground up, there were plenty of challenges along the way. Taking over an established business at a young age came with pressure and a steep learning curve, and I had to earn trust quickly while learning how to manage staff, finances, and long term growth at the same time.
Even now, it is still hard. Running a community focused business comes with constant challenges, changing needs, and tough decisions, but I keep pushing through because of the impact it has on the families we serve. Every obstacle has reinforced why I started in the first place, to create something positive, welcoming, and lasting for Newnan. Continuing to grow Zany’s is about more than the business itself, it is about bettering the community and providing a place where families can connect, celebrate, and feel supported.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work centers on building and running family focused businesses that serve the Newnan community in meaningful ways. I specialize in creating experiences, not just services, whether that is through Zany’s salon, play spaces, parties, or events. I am known for paying close attention to the details that matter to families, creating environments where kids feel excited and parents feel comfortable, and making sure everything we offer is thoughtful, safe, and welcoming.
In addition to Zany’s, I am currently in the process of building a new business, Color Pop Signs & Prints. Right now the focus is on planning, design, and laying the groundwork so it can eventually support our own branding and signage needs and grow into a resource for other local businesses. Being in the building phase has been an exciting challenge and a new way to expand creatively while staying rooted in the community.
What I am most proud of is the trust families have placed in Zany’s over the years and the fact that it has become a place where kids grow up and memories are made. What sets me apart is a hands on approach, a strong attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to continually improving and creating things that positively impact the Newnan community.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very talkative and outgoing, and I was always drawn to creative and artistic things. I loved expressing myself, whether that was through art, ideas, or connecting with people, and I was naturally curious and imaginative. I enjoyed being involved, trying new things, and bringing energy into whatever space I was in.
That creative and people focused side of my personality has stayed with me into adulthood. It shaped the way I connect with families, design experiences, and build businesses that feel fun, welcoming, and full of personality. The same creativity and enthusiasm I had growing up is what now drives how I lead, create, and continue to grow within the community.
