Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonja (Model) Anthony.
Sonja, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started modeling more than 10 years ago. I did print and editorial and through the connections and relationships with some great people, I was able to excel in that field and also dabble in some other things as well. Fast forward… I’m a business owner! Here’s that story:
I’ve been in the hair business for almost ten years starting with the hair that you’re familiar with in beauty stores. I worked for a company called Outre’ and I did sales and promotional shows for them so I learned a lot technically about commercial hair. A few years later, virgin hair became popular and I was asked a few times to work with people that wanted me to be their face of their hair brand or use their hair and start my own…. obviously, I went for the second option, lol. I wanted to have my name on something and have complete creative control. So, I started Soie Hair and with the help of tech creatives, the company began to become a success! I took a lot of time sourcing and researching the best grades of virgin hair and focusing on excellent customer service. I plan to have this company be one of the top contenders, if not THE top, in the game!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has not been a smooth road but I can say most of it has been. I’ve had to learn a lot about starting a business, mailing, time management, accuracy, customer service, firing & hiring, and disappointment. But that’s what makes a business and you have to keep learning and keep moving!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Soie Hair – what should we know?
My company is Soie Hair LLC. I specialize in the TOP grades of virgin hair extensions and a wide range of products. My hair has longevity, little to no shedding, is double drawn, has no chemical process (omitting blonde), double wefted tracks and fullness from top to bottom. I have straight, wavy, curly, kinky curly and afro kinky grades and have Brazilian, Peruvian, Malaysian, Raw Indian and Mink hair types. We are known for the excellent product and customer service. That is what I’m most proud of! We are like no other because we incorporate all the attributes above AND we’re growing… where can anyone find that??!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mother played a great role as my supporter throughout this process although she understood nothing lol. She calls herself “the mailman” as a joke because initially, packages were going to her home. I also have to give credit to all of my tech guys. They make sure the gears are turning… I wouldn’t be successful at this age without their knowledge and skill. A couple of my sales people are also why Soie Hair is successful because their dedication helps to bring in sales even when I can’t due to my schedule. And of course, last but not least, I couldn’t do anything without God! I am thankful.
