Today we’d like to introduce you to Solé.
Solé, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my professional music career as a hardcore hip-hop artist, attracting attention in the summer of 1999 with an appearance on J.T. Money’s hit single “Who Dat” which reached #1 on the Rap Singles Chart, remained on the charts for eight weeks and won “Rap Single of the Year” at the 1999 Billboard Music Awards. This was followed by the release of my debut album “Skin Deep” on DreamWorks Records in September of 1999 which achieved gold status and garnered a nomination for “Rap Artist of the Year” at the Billboard Music Awards. I also won several ASCAP Music awards that same year.
After the release of that first album, I started feeling disenchanted with the music industry, some of the lyrics I was writing and the images I was portraying. So, after only one full-length album, I requested to be released from my record label, and my sophomore album, “Fly Away” (which was completed) was never released. I no longer wanted to be a part of the promotion and glorification of the destructive messaging and programming that was being pushed and promoted, especially in “urban” music.
During my almost 20 year hiatus, I embarked upon a spiritual journey and began evolving into the woman I am today. I like to say its a “remembrance” of who I already was. I spent time journeying to other countries, sitting at the feet of teachers and gurus, immersing myself in classes, trainings, apprenticeships, and initiations. This journey ultimately led me back to myself. Not only am I a hip-hop artist, but I am also a healing wellness practitioner, offering Sacred Medicine through music and various other healing modalities. I share these offerings through my business Devi Tribe Wellness. I am now a 300 hr Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, 300 hr Certified Mystical Dance Teacher, Reiki Master, Womb Sauna Practioner, Sound Healer, Black Belt in Kung Fu, Clinical Herbalist, Sacred Medicine Woman Wellness Coach, Belly Dancer, Tantric Yogini, Inner Shakti Pre Natal Yoga Teacher, Birth Doula, Red Tent Facilitator, Water Priestess and I have a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies.
I offer workshops, classes, retreats, and wellness products online and in person, in the metro Atlanta area as well as throughout the U.S., primarily focusing on empowering women to reclaim their Divine Feminine Essence, heal themselves physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally and raise the vibration of love on the planet. My desire is to help others come to the realization of the oneness of being, the understanding that we are all interconnected, to become fully embodied and revere immanence as much as we revere transcendence, so that we may begin to be fully present and bring healing to a very sick world in need of love and true connection. That begins with our own personal, deep healing journey, for which I use very feminine, embodied practices, that ultimately lead the seeker on the journey of the Self, through the Self, back to the Self… being fully empowered from within.
In addition to my wellness offerings, I am also now finishing my sophomore album entitled “Encoded” which will be released Sept. 28, 2019. Some call it a highly anticipated return to music, I call it a Divine assignment that is guided by a desire to offer music that is empowering, inspiring and reflective of the path that I embarked upon when I left the industry many years ago. This project is a high vibrational offering of conscious hip hop encoded with light. My official return to music was ushered in a few years ago though with a feature on the single “SocMed Digital Heroin” on Public Enemy’s 30th-anniversary album “Nothing Is Quick In The Desert” in 2017. My current singles “Pranayama”, “The Formula” and “Under The Veil” are available now on all major digital and streaming platforms and I’ll soon be releasing a new single “Highs, Mids, Lows” with Atlanta’s own legendary DJ Nabs.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some of the struggles along the way were initially the fear of what people would think. Would people accept this new identity which was really just a remembrance of who I had been all along? The fear of rejection and judgment was real, at least early on. That quickly went away once I fully understood who I was and why I came here.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Devi Tribe Wellness – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My business, Devi Tribe Wellness, is an offering of Sacred Medicine, specializing in helping women heal themselves mind, body, and soul. We are dedicated to raising the vibration of love on the planet and reclaiming our Divine Feminine Essence. I offer various healing modalities such as small-batch, hand made herbal preparations, herbal consultations, Yoga classes, Sacred Mystical Dance classes, sound healing, traditional Tantra, webinars on plant-based nutrition, meditation, womb wellness, reiki, divine feminine workshops, retreats and more. As a company, I am most proud of doing my part to help shift the current paradigm of selfishness, hate, and greed, helping others come to the realization of the oneness of being, the interconnectedness of us all.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future we are planning to host week-long retreats, roll out more online courses, and partner with other divine feminine leaders to help bring even more awareness to this need for Sacred Embodiment, embodying the feminine aspect of divinity and walking that out in this modern world.
