Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Bright.
Kevin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I first started as a photographer in 98. I was actually a musician looking to get professional images. This is where my disappointment in other photographers ability to see my vision blossomed into my passion to make photos.
Has it been a smooth road?
I guess in a sense it hasn’t been all rosy but I guess I never truly look at how bad a situation is. My circumstances are totally up to me and the decisions I make. I haven’t always made great decisions but they’re mine and I have to live with the aftermath of those “bad decisions”. Besides….. there’s always someone who has it worst so who am I to complain.
Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
Growing up I was surrounded by artists. My uncles were heavily into music or painting. I had one uncle who would spend weeks on a painting. Whenever I was in his presence he would stick a paint brush in my hand to keep me from messing up his flow. I had a lot of creative influences. Another on of my family members was a musician and I would pick up a lot of techniques on how to approach art from him.. even though it may have been indirectly.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I had so many childhood memories but one that sticks out the most is getting other kids in the neighborhood to recreate the movie Purple Rain. I was a huge Prince fan so of course, I would portray him. I still get teased for my efforts till this day. 🙂
What are your plans for the future?
I’m currently shooting music videos and looking to shoot my first short film next year. My plans are to approach film the exact same way and from the same perspective as I approach photography. With the same eye and with the same feel. I wanted to tell realistic stories from a fantasy styled perspective.
