Today we’d like to introduce you to Cera Banks.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My sister and I were planning a birthday celebration for our mother. We invited a few of her friends and took them to an escape room. We had been hearing a little about this game experience. We really had no idea what we were in for. It was completely different than we imagined, We didn’t escape, however we left knowing we wanted to do this game again.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I started talking to my friends and family, researching other escape rooms and decided that I wanted to give it a try. I rented a small space, created my first 2 rooms and opened the doors in December 2015. It was a huge success.
Creating the rooms, adding all the clues, checking the locks, making the riddles, finding props, was so exciting. I would sit in the middle of the room as I wrote the story line and begin to imagine my customers excitement as they raced against the clock to find the code to escape the room.
Since my opening the rewards of this business have been more than I could have dreamed of. The relationships I’ve built, the families I’ve gotten to know are priceless.
Meeting other business owners, having companies do team building at Southside Escape, birthday’s, and countless other celebrations have been wonderful to be a part of.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part it has been an awesome life experience. I would say the only struggle I’ve really dealt with was locating the right space. I believe that Senoia is the best place and I can’t imagine being anywhere else, at least for now.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Southside Escape Room story. Tell us more about the business.
Southside Escape started as a real life game experience of escaping a room by answering riddles, finding hidden keys, solving puzzles, reading maps, and so forth. It is so much more than that now, It is a time that families and friends can spend an hour without a screen, phone, tablet, television, no interruptions, working together to obtain a goal, They laugh together, they get excited together and they escape together. I am most proud of the loyalty of my customers and the relationships I’ve built.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I cannot imagine what the next 5 years will hold. I only know that for now I am having the time of my life and truly enjoying this experience. I know for certain that I will continue to make lifelong friends and will not forget the amount of fun and laughter I’ve had along the way.
