Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Robinson.
Rebecca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Over 12 years ago I developed a concept by experimenting with a few canvas paintings I had laying around. I have a background in visual arts and fashion design and always kept a sewing machine handy. One day I created a handbag pattern and cut my canvas painting (acrylic on canvas) and sewed my first basic handbag. It took several years to figure out how to properly cut the canvas as well as invent the patent-pending coating that prevents the artwork from bleeding, cracking or discoloring. Around 2008 after perfecting my product, I decided to publicly launch the PSNOB (snob) brand. “Not just a handbag…A work of art”. PSNOB means a person with exquisite taste and loves fashion. It also is an individual that is proud of their personal style. The letter P in snob represents the “Process”. Today I continue to make one of a kind handbags. I sell directly online as well as in specialty stores. PSNOB is also known for contributing one of a kind handbags for fundraising throughout the country.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. I always believe persistence trumps talent. At one time I believed if I had a quality product that was also beautiful, people would love it. Some love it, some don’t. Some people still do not understand what it takes to create a luxury handbag from scratch. I am only one person, so I had to do all of the work and learn to wear all of the hats. I am a designer, pattern maker, seamstress, marketing/PR person, campaign creator, social media expert, damage control, customer service…..you name it. The main struggle is finding an individual who would be more than happy to endorse my brand PSNOB. I truly believe if I had someone in the spotlight that rocked a psnob handbag, I would be on my way or at least reach even more people who are unfamiliar with the brand. With counterfeit goods on the rise or brands attempting to finally go back to the basics and create exclusive items again, I feel as if psnob has always been ahead of its time…no two alike, handmade and made in the USA! I have had my handbags stolen at events, my idea/concept taken by a few who claim to be the originators. I have been turned away by buyers who also didn’t see the vision. But it didn’t stop me. Sometimes people are a little apprehensive about something new…so it is my job to show the world what a PSNOB really is! I believe the road ahead will still have its challenges, but if you truly believe in what you do, bumps in the road do not matter. I am the original psnob and I can’t wait to bring several people along for the ride!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and career?
Maybe luck or just coincidence but knowing the right people have played an important a part in both life and career. Certain people in my life have provided not only emotional support but business support as well. I’ve always learned valuable lessons from certain people who have a genuine interest in my success!
Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
The characteristic of staying engaged. I always make certain to mentor someone else on the same path or encourage someone who needs a bit of affirmation. As long as I can continue to interact with others and set a positive example, I will be successful.
What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
I love the diversity. People from around the world know of Atlanta…so much so some make it their home. As far as what I like least…the traffic…but then again, it’s a great excuse to hang out at a cool restaurant or lounge until the traffic dies down.
