Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacie Davis.
Hi Stacie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from Claflin University with a degree in Communications. I started working in the news field and later started working on a sports documentary on a South Carolina legendary basketball Coach Taft Watson. I enjoyed the process of creating the documentary that I knew producing was what I wanted to continue to do. Years later, I was watching a Christmas movie with my mother and said to her, “I can write me a Christmas movie.” My mom said, “you sure can,” and I did. Months later, Christmas in Carolina was created. Now that I had a script, I knew I needed actors ( a cast)… I searched online and contacted the actors. I’m often asked how did you get Kellie S. Williams to join the project? My response is simple – I emailed her.
Weeks later, I received a phone call from her father Mr. Ervin Williams. Shortly after Kellie S. Williams joined the cast and she also asked Darius McCrary her television brother “Eddie Winslow,” to join and reunite as siblings in Christmas in Carolina film. During this process, it took a team to make Christmas in Carolina a success. We started filming in surrounding areas in South Carolina in December 2019 and it was a beautiful experience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can say it has been a journey and on my journey. I’ve had challenges and I also had success. My challenges made me a stronger woman and discover things about myself. I’m grateful for every experience I had because it only made me become better as an African American writer/filmmaker.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The day I became Stacie Davis Films, I cried because I was so afraid to start a business. Thankfully my family encouraged me to take a leap of faith. I am proud of taking that step.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding the right mentor – you want someone who is wise and has years of experience. Each one of us needs someone we can look up to and lean on for advice/support. The first step to find a mentor is defining what you want out of your career and the most important sign that you’re ready for a mentor is if you’re teachable. Being teachable is what worked well for me.
