

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Glenn Harrison.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised by a loving family in a small blue collar steel mill town outside of Chicago, IL called Gary, IN. My humble beginnings taught me a lot about life at an early age and help shape my survival skills. I attended Theodore Roosevelt High School, home of the Panthers and earned top Scholastic and Athletic honors in Football and Track along the way. Sports taught me discipline, teamwork and helped bring out the best of me on the field and in the classroom. I never imagined I would think about marriage at an early age, but I met my soulmate, India Caprice Weston in high school, and promised that we would marry once we both completed our college tenure. I was fortunate enough to attend Iowa State University in 1989, and became a student athlete participating in football for two years at the Division 1 level. I later earned a Bachelors Degree in Political Science in 1993 with dreams of becoming an attorney and moving to the south.
I had one love promise to fulfill after graduating college, so I married my high school sweetheart in Gary, IN in June of 1994. I discussed moving to Atlanta with my wife early on, so we both knew we wanted start our life outside of Gary. I spent most of my summers with my grandparents in Tuskegee, AL and that definitely influenced my decision to live in the South. I really enjoyed the weather and atmosphere of the South, plus Atlanta was a very a progressive city on the rise with plenty of opportunity. Coming from a small town in Gary, IN, I knew I wanted to start a life for me and my family in a larger metropolitan city; so Atlanta was the most appealing choice. I worked as a restaurant manager in college so it made sense to seek employment as a restaurant manager in Atlanta. I was recruited by the Whitmire Group owners of several Fast Food Chains, and I carried a second job as a server, bartender, and later as a retail salesperson for several years. My wife and I were able to land employment with an Atlanta independent Insurance franchise called Abbey Insurance in 1995. After a couple of years, I decided to leave the restaurant industry and pursue a career as an insurance professional with the dream of owning my own agency at some future date. I worked for the Abbey Insurance franchise for 20 plus years and managed two agencies located in Dekalb and Fulton County. in 2014, I was able to establish some great relationships with my clients as well as my contracted insurance carriers. Everything appeared to be great we were stable well established and profitable. In December of 2014 I was blindsided by my employer after they announced that Abbey Insurance was sold to Direct General Insurance. Direct General offered me a position as a sales agent and I accepted to avoid unemployment. I have been extremely fortunate that I have never collected an unemployment check over the years. After several months working in a reduced capacity and earning half of what I previously earned from my previous employer it became obvious to me that I had to take control of my career and create a business for me and my family. I thought I would never name a business after my own name, but after my employer of 20 years used me to build two agencies worth close to 4 million dollars and all I walked away with was a BONUS and final PAYCHECK it became clear S C GLENN Insurance & Associates would be the name of my AGENCY. My experience taught me another valuable lesson about life, and people, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason. I have always believed that our biggest challenges in life help shape who we will eventually become. I knew with a plan, a positive attitude, and sacrifice I could build the business I have always dreamed about for me and my family. I incorporated in March of 2015 and reached out to all of the insurance companies I previously worked with while employed with Abbey Insurance. The auto insurance market in Georgia was very unstable due to losses throughout the State; so acquiring new contracts and new appointments to sell insurance products out of a new insurance agency was extremely difficult, I was faithful and leaned on my communication skills and the great relationships I established over the years with some well know carriers. Thankfully, I was a top producer for several years and many of the insurance carriers I reached out to for contract were very supportive. We have successfully completed two years of business under S C Glenn Insurance & Associates and we have managed to establish two office locations. We now offer preferred and non-preferred personal lines insurance for home, auto and recreational vehicles.
We offer All types of Commercial, Life, and Surety Insurance products to compete for our prospective client’s business. We are expanding our online products currently and we will soon be able to sell insurance in the State of AL, NC, IN, IL, MD, and DC. I am committed to making S C Glenn Insurance & Associates one of the strongest independent insurance brokerage in the US.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all, but I have persevered nonetheless. When starting a business from scratch you have to have a clear vision, and plan for the future. The idea is to create a system in which you can work, stay organized, compliant and productive. The hope is that later you can teach others to operate within the system you created so that you can later expand your business as it grows. Because I started with very little capital we initially had cash flow problems which makes it difficult to market and staff your agency. Once I established a sizable book of business and received my first year of renewals things did smooth out. I made myself available 24 hrs. a day for any prospective clients, reached out to all my previous clients and worked tirelessly to ensure they received personal service unseen anywhere else.
Establishing a presence in the community where your office is located takes time, often years to become recognized. I was able to leverage the social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram, so I could receive lead referrals that eventually led to business.
