Meet Stefanie Hughes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefanie Hughes.

Stefanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I discovered my purpose at age 19 and I’ve been navigating the journey ever since. At present, I opened a new office with more space to do therapy and groups and workshops. It’s been an amazing ride and finally I’m in a space that supports my vision of offering a full gamete of services to allow a family to come into our office and have all their mental health needs met. I’ve partnered with some amazing mocha magic clinicians with other specialty areas to cover a wider spectrum of services.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Listen, I don’t believe a smooth road is fun. I embrace the bumps as creative hops on this journey to success. 🙂 I see the challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. So the most recent challenge has been having to close the new office and move to a completely virtual offering. I’ve had to expand my mind around creative marketing, creative budgeting and innovative interventions to meet the needs of our community and not compromise the quality of care I’ve always offered. The other “bump” has been being mindful of my own self-care and sanity. The pandemic is a global traumatic experience and I have an essential role in supporting people to manage their fears, anger, panic, heartbreak, grief and sheer disbelief. It’s an amazing juggling act but it’s yielding some great fruit in the process. I remain true to my values around faith and optimism as a compass for this piece of my journey.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’ve worked in private practice for a number of years in many facets. There are many people and places that offer mental health services but I set out to create a team of people who share a value of integrity and quality care. I knew I couldn’t see everybody or offer every specialty. Creating Therapy Offices of Stefanie Hughes (emphasis of the plural) was a dream I’ve had since the start of my career. I wanted to partner with colleagues to provide a full gamete of services under one roof. In this way, we can literally see an entire family and meet all their counseling needs as a team. This in turn ensures more expedient healing and continuity of care. Each of the counselors have their own brand and dreams for expansion but we have come together to serve the South end of the perimeter. They each operate independently and are not employed by me. We simply share the vision of seeing people made whole and joined resources to make that a reality. We have affectionately labeled ourselves as “Mocha Mental Health Magic”. I’m feeling great about our future offerings in the areas of sex therapy, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral, EMDR, Brain spotting, substance abuse and creative approaches with art and music.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is simple. It’s a foundation of peace and confidence in the joy of fulfilling one’s purpose. It’s not based on a dollar sign or the number of followers you have. Rather it’s a connection to what grabs one at the core and screams fulfillment.
