Meet Stephanie Mayes of Flow So Amazzyn in Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Mayes.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I knew at the age of five that I wanted to be a Standup Comedian but my mom wasn’t having it. She stated you have to choose a career first, then once that’s secured, I don’t care about you pursuing your dream. She felt I needed to have a backup plan. So, I did what she asked. Then, life got in the way marriage, kids and work. Before I knew it, so much time had passed but the urge never left. By the age of 31, I felt it was time to do something about. I told one of my close cousins about it and she strongly recommended I gather the courage to do it that life was short and died weeks later before my show. I felt I had to honor her, so I got up on that stage and did an excellent job for my first time. I could tell from the laughter. Gaining love from my peers and fans, I began doing many shows with pay. I soon became a big fish in a little pond. I felt it was time to move to a big place with more opportunities. So, I left my hometown Cincinnati, Ohio in 2015. The Atlanta comedy scene is so great that if you have the drive, you can do big things. Things were going well here for me, I quickly became acclimated. Started getting bookings and begin to work several veteran comedians. Auditions, film financially struggling a bit but things were good. However, in 2017, I lost my big sister suddenly due to a car accident. And that took the life out of me that was my best friend. So, I began to pull away from the scene and that I realize now wasn’t the best thing to do or maybe it was. But I’m ready to come back to that stage and bring joy to the world. I have been in and out for two years. Now, I feel it’s time to live out the rest of my journey and not die with my sister.

Has it been a smooth road?
No. Transitioning from one state to another was challenging. Financially, things were tight. Finding jobs and realizing the pay was lower here than back home at least the part of town I’m in. Then, of course, losing my sister in 2017. She left behind three children as well. Adjusting to the new life I was dealt with has been very challenging.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Flow So Amazzyn story. Tell us more about the business.
Stand up comedy. I’m known for my laidback girl next door persona. Telling relatable stories that happen to be hilarious. I am most proud that I bring joy to the hearts of many. According to my peers, my nonchalant style on stage sets me apart.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Life is challenging and people need relief. It’s going to become the number 1 go-to in life. Laughter heals the soul. Comedians are healers. Everyone can benefit from a good laugh.
