Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Shelton.
Stephen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m an entrepreneur, creative and student. My faithful journey to Atlanta started with just a dream and a 2008 Kia spectrum. Like most, I suffered homelessness and resorted to my car.
Bootstrapping my faith and tenacity the worse was overcome. Through the struggling music and creativity was revived as well as a new love for short film. Currently a student at Georgia State University, I have the opportunity to take my aspirations to higher levels. I have one completed short film titled “Identity,” a film based on the struggles of mental illness. Writing, directing and filming “Identity” has inspired me to open my own short film company. Creatively, I’m working on an Ep slated for spring of ’19. I’m one out of millions, but if my climb can inspire my fate or others, I’m definitely living the dream.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely been rocky and uphill. Dealing with relocation can be tricky for anyone. Although I had a plan, a job to transfer to and a place to stay none of these things were set in stone. Depression, anxiety, doubt all plagued me but it was also the inspiration to help me be the strong, confident, resilient man I am at this moment.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is my brand Stefandandre. I’m still growing my brand musically and creatively thru social media platforms. I would like to believe I’m known for my music and content. I’m excited and proud of how far my love for music, film, and creativity has allowed my passions to manifest. As cliche as it sounds, being authentic sets my brand aside from others and I believe that’s the recipe for longevity.
What were you like growing up?
I was a self-entertained kid. I loved and still love music, theater and film. Reserved and silently observant was me in a nutshell. Yet and still as early as I could remember I’ve always taken risks and rebelled. Never had many friends but I’ve always attracted people to be in my space. My imagination was always one of the most amazing parts of my childhood and adolescence, it gave me an escape.
