Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephon Dupree.
Stephon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career starting off being a college party promoter. I put together my own events and `that’s how supported myself and started to make a name for myself. I met Bryson Tiller around 2012-2013 and started to manage him. I always saw something special in him and wanted to do whatever I could to help him. Years later, I found an investor and we used social media to blow him up, landing him a deal with RCA Records. Since 2014 I discovered R&B artist Yo Trane off twitter 2017. After that, I started my company Dupree Entertainment and signed Drebo Squeeze, Jake & Zac, OBN Dev. 2019 I signed a publishing deal with super-producer Rodney “Darkchild: Jerkins with my artists Jake & Zac. Currently, today im shopping OBN Dev & Drebo Squeeze.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road to where I’m at now was tough, I faced adversity along the way to where I’m at today. Managing my first artist, Bryson Tiller, was a great learning experience in this music industry, but it was also a great thing to be apart of. I can honestly say I enjoyed the process of that success story. I also learned that it takes patience with each artist you represent. Sometimes they forget you have a personal life as well, so you have to be real good with balancing your personal/business life.
Please tell us about your work.
We give musicians and music-related businesses the tools to become innovators in the fields of networking, artist development, consulting and project management. Our goal here at Dupree Entertainment is to build a buzz for our clients and ultimately solidify ourselves as a consistent resource and go-to place for artist development. Once all of the parts align, our future lies in collaborating with major record labels who share our vision.
What sets us apart is that we an artist’s first company, meaning we would never try to change an artist. Our model is to take the talent we sign and bring their talents to life to the rest of the world.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being resourceful, understanding everyone’s timing with success is a state of mind.
