Meet Sue Cleere of She’s Wired in Morningside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sue Cleere.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
She’s Wired was born out of frustration. A group of women was tired of being talked down to when they had questions about their tech. They didn’t speak “geek.” What they wanted was someone who could teach them how to use their technology the way they wanted to use it. With that in mind, She’s Wired was founded in 2009 to make people happy by simplifying technology. For the past 8 years, we’ve been doing just that, growing our team to 6 members and diversifying our services based on client need.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any business, there are certain challenges that we’ve come up against. To overcome them — and we’d suggest this to any business — we kept our mission in mind. With every decision we’ve made, we’ve asked ourselves, “Does this further our mission to make our clients happy?”

One of our specific struggles has been showing our clients that we are teachers of technology, rather than geeks who fix and leave. We’ve always wanted our clients to feel empowered by their devices, not scared of them.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about She’s Wired – what should we know?
We work with individuals and small businesses to simplify technology.

We consider ourselves teachers first and foremost. What sets us apart is our aim to teach clients how to make their tech work for them, even when we’re not around. This is true for both our small business and individual clients. For small businesses, we want them to have ownership over their websites, to get tech to make their business more efficient. For individuals, we ask what they want their devices to do, rather than force them into a certain way of doing things.

Specifically, we help our individual clients with Mac, Windows, iPad, smartphone, printers, extending internet, and keeping children and data safe online. For small businesses, we create websites, optimize sites for search engines, create e-newsletters, and provide tech support.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We pride ourselves on our relationship with our clients. Our number one source of new clients is referrals from current clients. We love getting to know our clients and have created lasting friendships with many of them.
