Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunceray Rhymes.
Sunceray, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up in Chicago, IL I always saw my mother trying to start businesses while working her full-time job. At the time not even knowing what entrepreneurship was. One business my mother started was a beauty Spa called “House of Beauty” it makes me laugh to this day because we had to answer the phone saying “House Of Beauty this is cutie how can I help you”, but doing hair was not in the plans for me I thought…..So I decided to joined the military. While serving I was deployed to Iraq from 2005-2006 where I met my now husbands and moved to Georgia we had two amazing boys. While trying to figuring out my life as a mother and wife, I became a dental assistant and then later became a correctional officer until my life did a 180 which got me to where I am now.
In 2011, I was hit with devastating news that my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. Me and my family decided to move from Georgia back to Chicago where short after my mother lost her battle to cancer in 2012. As I tried to heal from the hurt, I asked myself what way can I honor my mother. We moved back to Georgia, where I attended Empire Beauty School later receiving my cosmetology license, but while in school I fell in love with the wax room and somehow Brows became my passion. From 2014-2017 I worked at a couple of beauty salons putting my stamp on the brow industry creating brows with my technique that no one had ever seen. I had even started educating other entrepreneurs by hosting classes teaching women and men how I wanted the Beauty industry to be represented through my professionalism and knowledge.
In 2018 when I decided to make the decision to open my own spa suite it was truly a leap of faith. I had never been so nervous about something in my life I was solely relying on faith and a credit card. But in June of 2018 when I opened my books for services it was like I never left, slow but yet steady and I couldn’t believe it. June 2019, I celebrated one year at my own space doing Brows at Sunceray’s Beauty Spa in a way so many has never seen.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh no, I try to stand by “wherever you are, be there totally – Eckhart Tolle”.
I’ve had to continuously learn from mistake after mistake. In business you are constantly investing in yourself and your brand and not all investment go the way you think and on top of that trying to balance home life.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sunceray Beauty Spa – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Sunceray’s Beauty Spa is a full-service spa providing brow, lashes, facial and hair services. I Specialize in all categories but I’m most known for my Brow Wax & Tinting Services which is also known as the “Fade Affect”. As a company, I’m most proud of that when my clients come to me they get a sense of peace and serenity and are able to relax. The consistency and knowledge I offer to my clients is what sets me apart.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future for “SBS” is to expand and be able to hire other aspiring beauty professionals that want to give the same professionalism that the beauty industry some times fall short of. I’m also looking to get my online course up and going.
