Today we’d like to introduce you to Surena Burton.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I became unemployed with my previous job at Apple, I was searching long and hard for a replacement job but I had no luck. Things became harder and money became thin, all while providing for my daughter. During this time, I was obsessed with Cake Wars and Youtube baking channels. I found myself watching these things every day all day to the point I wanted to try it but felt I wouldn’t be successful at it. However, one day, a light clicked in my head and I found the courage to try it out. Of course, my first try was horrendous but I never gave up and continued to practice every day and it has gotten me to where I am now. The reason I felt so strongly in continuing my business is because of my daughter, she’s my motivation. My daughter also has a disability which allows me to be home with her all day, so with her having her disability, I wanted to have a way for her to be wealthy by the time she’s an adult and so she doesn’t have to work a day in her life. I want to work hard so she can relax.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. My daughter has a disability so that within itself has been hard but I’ve overcome all obstacles and keep pushing daily. The struggle I face constantly is wanting to give up. There are days where I doubt myself and my talent but I know I can only get to where I want to be by fighting through all battles. I believe nothing worth having is easy!
ZoBella’s Treats – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is a confections/sweets business. I offer a variety of custom chocolate treats such as strawberries, Oreos, pretzels, cupcakes, and so much more.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far has simply been having people truly believe in my craft and support me.
