Hi Susan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been drawn to helping others and nurturing those around me, so it was no surprise that I found my calling in supporting mothers during one of the most transformative times in their lives. As a doula, I offer emotional, physical, and informational support to mothers before, during, and after childbirth.
I am there to listen, guide, and empower mothers as they navigate the challenges and joys of bringing a new life into the world. Whether it’s helping them create a birth plan, offering comfort measures during labor, or providing postpartum support, I am dedicated to ensuring that mothers feel supported, heard, and empowered throughout their journey.
Being a doula is not just a job for me; it is a calling. I feel privileged to be a part of such a sacred and intimate experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and support mothers during this pivotal time in their lives. It brings me immense joy to witness the strength, resilience, and love that mothers possess, and I am honored to be able to be a part of their beautiful journey into motherhood.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every doula’s experience will be unique, so some may have had a smooth ride while others may have faced challenges along the way. I am blessed to have had a smooth ride this far. Of course, there are always struggles and changes made along the way, but that’s what makes this journey so rewarding.
We’ve been impressed with Susan The Birth Doula, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Susan The Birth Doula’s goal has been to empower and educate my clients throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. Over the years, as a doula, I have created a safe and supportive environment for my clients to feel heard, respected, and valued.
What makes me different than any other doula is that I am committed to this work; I educate and give my clients opportunities to gain support not only from me but also from other professionals hand-picked by me to continue giving my clients the knowledge support, and love they need during pregnancy.
I believe that every birthing person deserves to have a positive and empowering birth experience, and I am dedicated to helping them achieve that.
I am most proud to be a part of such a special and sacred time in my client’s lives, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support them in any way that I can.
I want readers to think of my brand and think of family, support, love, and a village for black-birthing mothers & their families.
How do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t say luck has anything to do with it, but God. I owe everything to him. To be able to run a successful business amid COVID over the last four years is truly a blessing; when a lot of businesses went under, I was blessed to just have started my business and have been able to stay the course since, and I owe that to God.
