Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Cypert.
Suzanne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started with the fitness industry back when a group exercise class was called “aerobics.” And in fact, I started as an aerobics instructor in Dallas, Texas……..my home state. I loved the business so much that I decided I wanted to make it my career. I quickly moved into sales and began moving to clubs across the country with Wellbridge (owner of 20 upscale clubs across the country)
I moved from Dallas to Minneapolis, Las Vegas and then Atlanta. In Atlanta, I was put in charge of the sales team at the new, upscale Concourse Athletic Club. Atlanta had never really seen a club like the Concourse, so it was definitely the “place to be” when we first opened in 1989. I took about a four year break from Atlanta to open one of our new Spa/Fitness Center in Newport Beach California, but found myself back in Atlanta in 1998 to continue my career as the General Manager back at Concourse Athletic Club……
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While moving around the country was adventurous, you can imagine that picking up your life every 2-4 years was also trying. Making new friends and learning new cities was fun, but could also be a little lonely at times. What I didn’t realize is that I made lifelong friends in every city I lived. It also taught me how to survive on my own, not knowing anyone and forcing me to get out and meet people.
Please tell us about Concourse Athletic Club.
We are Wellbridge. We own and manage upscale clubs in Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland and Missouri. We manage two clubs in Atlanta, and I am the General Manager of one of them, Concourse Athletic Club. We specialize in building relationships to help improve the lives of our members. We find out their needs and their desired outcomes and match them with the elite fitness professionals to help them achieve their results. All clubs have equipment, classes, etc, but with Wellbridge, we emphasize the “relationship.” We create memorable experiences and lasting relationships…………you will not find this in most clubs. In addition, we have thought of everything………….we have a full service restaurant and bar as well as a “resort” feel at the outdoor pool. Our amenities are top of the line, but again, what sets us apart is our staff and the relationships we make with our members and guests.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Probably the best memory I have is knowing that my parents supported me and my siblings in everything that we did. They would always be at anything that we were involved in from sports, cheerleading to modeling shows. At times, they would have to split up to be at two things at a time. That support gave me the confidence to go into the world knowing that no matter what, they would always be there for me.
