Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Robinson .
Hi Sydney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Sydney Robinson and I am 30 years old. I am a proud graduate of Clayton State University. I graduated with a major in liberal arts and minor in education specialities. My business is a family-owned company that has been operating for 21 years. I originally started my career as a 4th-grade teacher, but in 2020 during Covid, I made the decision to step in and take over the business full-time. I’ve now been running it for 5 years.
Like most businesses it definitely wasn’t easy in the beginning. There was a lot of trial and error, and I had to learn everything hands-on. But through that experience, I learned how to follow. I always tell people it takes a great follower to be an extraordinary leader.
In addition, I grew, the business grew, and I truly fell in love with what I do. Running this business has become one of the most rewarding parts of my life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I will say the road has not been the smoothest, like any business, there have been ups and downs. In this line of work, you’re dealing with people’s children, and that naturally comes with a lot of emotions and high expectations. On top of that, because of the area we serve, finances aren’t always stable for families, and that’s something we have to navigate often.
In the beginning, it was especially challenging. Being young, I faced a lot of pushback from older clients who didn’t always take me seriously or tried to handle me a certain way. I had to learn how to stand my ground and advocate for myself and my business.
But over the years, I’ve grown, and the environment has gotten so much better and I’m proud of how far we’ve come.
As you know, we’re big fans of S&S Learning Center. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I want people to know that S&S Learning Center is a family owned in-home daycare serving children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old, we also offer before- and after-care. This business is ran by myself, and my mom and with family has employees to keep it family centered. Our program is student-centered with a strong focus on hands-on learning and real-world skills. What I believe truly sets us apart is the way we operate: we value our parents and show it consistently. Without them, we wouldn’t be successful.
Every year we host special events for our families—our annual Thanksgiving luncheon, Christmas celebration, and Mother’s and Father’s Day gifts. We do these things to show appreciation, build community, and make our parents feel supported.
What I’m most proud of is the growth I see in the children. Every child who leaves my daycare leaves more independent, confident, and equipped with new skills they didn’t have when they first arrived. Watching them grow each year is truly the most rewarding part of what I do. I enjoy being a part of their lives. EVERY PART OF IT!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is funny because I don’t look at it as luck but more so the blessings and opportunities of God. However, if I have to use luck I will say When I look back on my journey, it has played a small but meaningful role in my life and my business. Not luck in the sense that everything fell into place easily, but luck in the opportunities I was given and the timing of certain moments. I was thankful to grow up in a family that built this business, thankful to have a mother who trusted me enough to take it over, and thankful to discover a passion for childcare that I didn’t even realize I had at first. Trust me I tried every job before realizing childcare was my calling. Even during the hardest seasons, I’ve been fortunate to have families who believed in me, children who inspired me, and a community that supported me as I grew. But the truth is — luck may have opened the door, but hard work, patience, and commitment are what allowed me to walk through it and build the business I have today.
