Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Green
Hi Sylvia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Wow my story…I started writing poetry when my grandmother passed. I was around 12 yrs old. I used to dream of being a media mogul, having a conglomerate of businesses catered around music. Around the age of 17 my cousin told me he bet I could be a rapper based on my poetry. I idolized him so when he said that I took it very serious and started writing at least one verse per day. My passion for music really began there.
Fast forward I spent time working my craft, learning the business, and making my mark. I was signed to an indie label back home in Detroit, Once Wa$ Broke. I was apart of a street team, Black Sea Music. I ended up in Atlanta because my best friend said it was the place for me to be to really push my music career.
Since moving to Atlanta I’ve done so many things. From social media for a Radio station and DJs to building my own Label (Heartfilled Muziq), Magazine (On Blast Magazine) that will finally release this May, and a Radio station (On Blast Radio) which I celebrated my 5 yr anniversary this past January.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If only I could say things were easy but there were many obstacles, setbacks, disappointments along the way. The stretch of time between getting it all together, lossing friends, losing my cousin Lucky who I mentioned earlier, losing my grandpa, finding out my mom has cancer, a failed marriage which all of course slowed my stride but also gave me strength to hold fast to my dreams and to never give up!
As you know, we’re big fans of ON BLAST RADIO, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
ON BLAST RADIO is really a media company that specializes in aiding indie artists and entrepreneurs in sharing their story to a broader audience. Our motto is your story, your way no gossip no drama! And that’s just one thing that sets us apart from many other media brands. We do interviews, red carpet events, movie premieres, fashion shows, vendor and networking events. Our radio station plays all indie music 24/7 except when we’re streaming podcasts and interviews.
I would say I’m most proud of our growth. In January we became apart of the 4 Corner Studios family when we acquired our new space there which has open many doors for us to do many more production type things. I’m very proud of all the work we’ve put in and all we’ve accomplished so far. I’m very proud to be launching our magazine.
We offer many services from interviews, song spins, live remotes, press kits, indie artist consultations, advertising, and more!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk was getting starting, just turning a thought a dream into a business. Taking on the financial burden of paying for space in this economy when artists barely want to pay for services! It’s a great risk just to believe in yourself in an age where many want to see you fail. The bigger the risk the bigger the reward! Though sometimes we may fail it’s better than never trying. I’d rather try and fail than to not try at all and always wonder.
