Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabbie Sunshine.
Hi Tabbie , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been singing my whole life. My first words were song. I was in the playpen jumping and singing ” praise the Lord every body, praise the Lord” My father walked in and discovered me with tears of joy. Fast forward to the last 8 years. I moved to Atlanta in 2017. I didn’t move here to sing. I had actually given up on singing as I was told I didn’t have the right look. or I had too many looks, or that I was over weight, didn’t show enough skin, showed too much skin…… basically I was over the singing thing. Moved to Atlanta and hit an open mic with a friend that I had moved here with. He called me out and said ” if you can sing then you won’t be scared at the open mic” I sang there ONE song the only secular song that I knew ” killing me softly” at the Pizza BAR. That night changed my whole life. I went on to headlining at Apache before it moved and after it moved. I sing at Kats cafe, St James, and City Winery. One day while chatting with a friend who I didn’t know that well he said you should audition for the cruise line. So I did. That was in 2021. I have now completed 4 contracts since then and released my very first single ” YEAH YEAH YEAH” Singing is second nature for me and I do not take for granted that GOD gave the gift,
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This has been the most difficult journey of my life. growing up in the shelter I have always had to fight for everything. No different here. Seems like I cannot be a singer and not play the game. However I have decided not to play the game. I believe that GOD gave me this gift for a reason and GODS gift will never require me to play any game.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Im a Vocalist with no real training. I have a massive range and great voice control. I am extremely proud of my single even thou it don’t get a lot of play or Love from even the people that are friends and family. What sets me apart is that I Love everyone and I want everyone to win SO I DO NOT GATEKEEP ANYTHING.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say pay close attention to the people that are around you all the time. Your circle should be inclusive to each other. Withholding or not assisting will hold you back from the people who actually wanna see you win.
