Thanks for sharing your story with us Tabitha “Queen “. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Tabitha Cornish but my clients refer to me as Queen. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, my love for nails began around middle school. I used to get my hair done and while spending for what seemed like eternity under the dryer, I used to look through hair books for styles and would always see that people of color did nails. It excited me! I never saw such beautiful, creative nails nor them done by people who look like me. As I became a young adult, nails became an expression for me. Representing who I was and my personal style. One day I thought to myself, “Since I’m always getting my nails done, let me just see if I can do this myself!”. The next day I began researching schools and later decide to enroll in to ISSN (International School of Skin and Nails in Roswell, Ga). Throughout my school journey I met great people from all walks of life and fell more in love with the creativity nails can exude. It also opened my eyes to the opportunities within the nail industry. Once graduating in 2011 and receiving my license, I continued to work with children and sporadically did my best friend’s nails and a few people here and there. I relocated to Killeen, TX in 2014 and began working with children again. I started doing my own nails again, getting back into my craft. It wasn’t until 2016 that I finally made up my mind to quit the job I was working at and finally choose to take a career in nails serious. There I gained my presence and perfected my skills as a license Texas nail technician before relocating back to Atlanta in 2019. Now I am currently home-based in Lithonia, GA offering manicures, pedicures, acrylic, and gel services. I have a love for nail art and a passion to make people happy and express their own personal style through their nails.
Has it been a smooth road?
Oh no! Of course, the road has not been easy! But I definitely won’t complain. God has been and will be with me every step of the way. From negative statements of “Why you wanna do that ?” or “That’s not a career, you don’t make no money doing that!” or “The Asians have that on lock!” to people wanting you to live their lives through you, that alone is definitely a struggle. However, I’ve blocked and continue to block those. Personally, it has been to understand Gods timing for you. You can’t rush it. Trials and tribulations may arise but as they say, you have to trust the process. The journey is beautiful! Just learn from and definitely enjoy the ride!
