Today we’d like to introduce you to Tae Greer.
“I was tired of being broke,” Cake Artist Tae Greer simply states as he explains his Cake Journey. “ I was tired of not having money and stability in my life. I wanted so much more than the basics in life and I knew that I couldn’t go down the route I’ve seen so many of my loved ones take. My father instilled the passion for baking and creating in me at a very young age; we would always make “fruit pizzas” every Christmas which is now one of my best selling treats. I’ve always been good baking and creating and never realized it.
Going without so many things, I saw people take for granted made me hungry for it. I had to break the cycle for myself, my siblings, for my family. I knew I had to do something legitimate and something that could create wealth for my family generations from now. I decided to dig deep within myself and take a leap on faith, which changed my life forever for the better. Going from selling $1 Cupcakes out of my car to being homeless and selling treats out of a friend’s apartment, I knew the only way to change my circumstances was by not giving up.
During that time, I was so unsure of myself, unsure of where my life was heading. Today I’m so proud of myself for sticking to my passion even when times got hard, even when I wanted to quit. I hope my story inspires others under similar circumstances to keep going and continue believing in themselves. Cakes are my story; they keep me going, they are apart of my life forever. I take pride in everything I produce and I make every treat with love; these cakes saved my life, LITERALLY!
Has it been a smooth road?
This road has been far from smooth for me. As cliche as it sounds, it literally took blood, sweat, and tears to just to get here and I’m only scratching the surface. So many things have come in my way that have made me want to quit and give up. My very first pop up event, I spent about $600 on overall costs, expecting a large turnout. Fifteen people showed up, I was devastated. $600 doesn’t seem like a lot to some but, at that time, I was living on someone else’s couch and that money was all I had to my name. I’ve had my money stolen from me. I’ve literally went broke time and time again trying to keep my business alive.
I didn’t have a car from 2015-2017 and had to get rides to the grocery store, to set up events and deliver cakes. I was doing all of this while living between three different people. All of this took such a toll on me mentally and physically. It was the strength of God that kept me going. I had a few very encouraging people in my life who wouldn’t allow me to give up. No many how many times I cried or wanted to quit. I’m blessed to have made it this far, the road is never easy but, you have to keep going and keep fighting if you want your dreams to become a reality.

Myself being an African American man in the LGBTQ community, I feel so at home here. My business was immediately embraced by community and the support has been overwhelming.
