Meet Tahlia Diaz of HAUS Real Estate Group in Buckhead Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahlia Diaz.

Tahlia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My father was a real estate investor, so that “real estate bug” was always there. As I attended college at Auburn University, I started working at the Apartment Complex where I lived. As a leasing agent, I made decent money but I was really interested in all of the Realtors that were coming in doing less work than myself and making quick and easy commissions. So, I signed up for a real estate class and the rest is history!

I moved back home to Decatur in late 2010, in the middle of the recession, and was honestly nervous about getting into real estate. The market was awful, agents were spiteful, and no one had faith in real estate agents. I decided to switch my license over anyway in 2011.

Fast forward to now… I have been a licensed and successful real estate agent for almost 13 years, I starred in a hit reality real estate show, I’ve sold homes to families from all walks of life, I’ve helped several celebrities into their current homes, and the latest is that I’ve decided to open my own Real Estate Company.

Currently, I am the Broker and Owner of HAUS Real Estate Group based right here in the city that raised me. I relaunched the company exactly 7 months after giving birth to my son. I currently have 5 licensed agents underneath my brokerage that are outstanding!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning a boutique brokerage is a lot of work!!! Most people don’t understand what that means. I own a real estate company just like a Keller Williams or a Coldwell Banker. As a real estate agent, they must be licensed with a Broker of a company to practice real estate in the state of Georgia. I am that company.

Along with of course the overhead is also the liability that I hold because of my agents. A real estate agent is simply a representative of the broker. In short, anything that they do in the “streets”, falls back onto myself. Because of that liability, I am very dedicated to training my agents and informing them of the laws and rules that apply to them. Education is one of the most important foundations of my brokerage.

Many big box brands will try to downplay the idea of a “boutique brokerage”. I’ve even had a broker at a large company tell one of her agents to not join my firm because she didn’t see the value in what I could offer her. Well, that agent has joined my firm and she is already off to phenomenal start with HAUS in a short span of one month versus the last 10 months that she was with the other company.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me means freedom. My children are everything to me and as a mother of 3, [Jordan (13), Giselle (6), and Atreyu (eight months)], being able to spend time with my children is the most important thing in the world. I want to be able to attend every game, recital, practice, and competition that each of them has while my business cannot only sustain itself but to also generate more income.

Being a single mother can be hard at times, especially when you’re building your business. Balancing both is seriously an acrobatic act that needs to be a sport in the Olympics.
