Meet the Hungry Homegirl

Today we’d like to introduce you to the Hungry Homegirl.

The Hungry Homegirl, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been the “creative” friend. I purchased my first camera in high school and eventually used my talents in college by doing photo-shoots for friends and classmates. Although, I graduated from college with a degree in Convergence Journalism, I later learned that I’m not a huge fan of writing. My passion came from being able to use my creative expression through photographs.

My Hungry Homegirl journey started, as I was working in Corporate America. I wasn’t necessarily happy at work and wanted to start a platform where I could be artistic and do what I love. I always had colleagues tell me how inspired they were that I always found time to make a work-life balance. Yes, I would work 40+ hours a week and still make sure that I was in the city enjoying myself almost every day after work. Co-workers, friends, family and even associates would ask me, “Where are some good eating places in Atlanta.” I wanted to use a platform to answer ALL the questions I got from posting food images on my personal social media channels.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a blog is never easy and staying consistent is even harder. I have so much fun documenting my food journey that I appreciate every moment of it. The only “struggle” that comes to mind is being a newbie in the foodie world and trying to stick to my diet when I get invited to restaurants. 🙂

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hungry Homegirl – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I started the cultural inspired, Homegirl-like, foodie-friendly brand simply as a hobby. I wanted to educate my audience about local spots, start-up restaurants, African American-owned restaurants, the BEST brunch places, the cutest date spots, affordable fine dining and more in my city. As the brand continues to grow and I travel, I take my content with me & write about local eateries in other cities as well. I encourage people to follow me on this journey as I explore my city and travel giving my HONEST opinion on dishes. I am extremely proud of the fact that I have accomplished the first steps of getting my blog going. I make it a mission to be as authentic as possible.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE Atlanta so much! There are so many different places around Metro Atlanta with live music, bottomless mimosa specials, rooftop or patio vibes, karaoke, Happy Hour specials, $2 tacos, 50 cent wing specials & so much more. Oh & let’s not forget that Atlanta is home of Chick-fil-A!!!! My least favorite thing about Atlanta is the traffic and construction. 🙁
