Meet Tamara Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Smith.

Hi Tamara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Let’s start off by saying I wear glasses because I can’t see. So me starting a glasses/ sunglasses business was shocking to most of my friends but at the same time, they could see the vision. I started PG in undergrad because every outfit I had on wasn’t complete without a pair of shades. It grew from there. And the confidence I gained with a pair of shades and glasses was amazing to grow through and see.

After that, my brand Photogenicbymara was born. I went from just posting on IG basic photos to planning theme photoshoots based on a movie or show. My creativity has helped me tremendously with my business & I love the growth I see daily and every time I drop a new collection.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth? I can barely see so definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Some of the struggles included having shades during a winter when no sunshine was in sight so business wasn’t doing what it should have. But that’s when I thought of the Nerd Collection where it’s regular glasses you can wear all the time plus put your prescription in them. Others included how to best show my creativity in my brand so I sat down and talked to God daily about it & he showed me my way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an elementary teacher & teach Kindergarten! I’ve been a teacher for three years now & love every bit of it. I’m most proud of my growth in my confidence as a teacher & how my creativity shows through my lesson plans. Being creative makes me really think out of the box so my students won’t sit in a desk for 8 hours learning but we move and groove to learn.

What does success mean to you?
Success is living in my purpose and doing what I love to do. It’s showing my creativity has no borders or boundaries. It’s seeing the growth in my skills as I learn everyday and grow as a woman, daughter, and business owner.
