Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara “Tammy” Hill.
Tammy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a “Triple threat” and the total package. I am the epitome of a boss woman. I am a wife, a mother of three and an entrepreneur. Family is my everything and I love hosting events. Parties for my kids were grand affairs. It just so happens 15 years ago that a parent attended one of my kid’s birthday parties in November of that year and loved the entire presentation. Right then and there, she declared that I was going to host her daughter’s birthday party. I explained to her that I was not, at that time, an event coordinator. She said…” See you in June”. Little did I know that God would reveal to me my passion and purpose all in the same day. Hence, Events of Atlanta was born.
My business has been referral only since July of 2006. It has continued to grow because of my work ethic and I take pride in every event. Events of Atlanta is my brand, it is my name and I always stand behind my work.
It’s truly uncanny how some of my clients are people that I have continued to have a relationship with and I consider my friends. There are also clients that have utilized me for every event, big or small, in their lives and I can’t express how grateful I am for that. #Workinginmypurpose
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be quite frank, NO it hasn’t been a smooth ride. However, my oldest daughter once shared, “you can’t complain about how much is on your plate when the goal was to eat”. As simple as this is, I keep this concept in the back of my mind when juggling my daily obligations. Personally, achieving a work-family life balance has proven to be quite the daunting process. I had to make a conscious decision to achieve balance daily, which has not been a smooth journey. This challenge became apparent to me when I had clients calling to book events on my child’s birthday. Brides don’t want to hear that you’re on vacation with your family when their favors didn’t arrive on time, mom’s don’t care that you’re cheering on your son at his basketball game while scoreboards are blaring into the phone call. However, being a businesswoman sometimes means picking out linen for a tea party during halftime. Contacting and confirming vendors at dinner or even shopping for a baby shower and groceries at the same time. Smooth isn’t the first word that comes to mind; however continued progression is certainly worth celebrating.

I am the event planner that will be on the dance floor with guest. I will start the soul train line, get individuals out of their chairs, basically making sure that your party is a memorable affair. I have taking the phrase “the Life of the party” and turned it into a business.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Barbizon School of Modeling is not your typical favorite childhood memory, but it’s mine. It’s not because it was my dream to be a supermodel, although that would have been nice. No, it’s my favorite because Barbizon was where I was no longer a tall, slender young girl “Olive Oyl” or an eight-foot-tall yellow bird “Big Bird” as I was in school. There my body image was positive. My self-confidence, independent spirit and leadership skills blossomed. There wouldn’t be a story without a strong black woman providing positive re-enforcement, guidance and leadership. I am so thankful that my mom’s intuition kicked in and she signed her 11-year-old 5’10” daughter up for these classes. This place became my safe haven and pointed me in the direction to become my best self. My experience there created the groundwork for me wanting to be an advocate for kids, to make kids feel good about themselves, uplifted, and inspired through positive re-enforcements.
As a result of my experience, my business as an Etiquette Coach came into existence. In past years I have annually held etiquette classes for Cynthia Bailey Modeling agency, numerous public/private schools in the Metro Atlanta area as well as Commissioners, Sororities, Fraternities, Church organizations and Private sessions.
