Meet Tambra Cherie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tambra Cherie.

Tambra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Although I graduated with an MBA & an undergraduate degree, my passion has always been entertainment. I’ve always had a passion for people. I interned at a radio station upon graduating from undergrad and fell in love with the industry. I loved everything about it. The music. The culture. The history. The people. I was captivated by the energy. It was fun. I was having the time of my life! I loved interviewing artists and discussing music and future plans. I began to write as a contributor for AllHipHop.com. I also began to interview celebrities for a local entertainment television program, where we covered various concerts, events, festivals, and parties throughout the South. I remember covering the Vibe Musicfest in Atlanta. That was also my first time going to Essence Music Festival and interviewing artists such a Lil Wayne, Birdman, and even Kimora Lee Simmons.

I was doing what I loved to do. Then, I had an opportunity to come to Atlanta, and for months I stayed interviewing artists, building my portfolio and interviewed for intern at Hot 107.9. Upon getting that internship, I received a call from another radio station to come on board doing entertainment news as their entertainment news reporter. I jumped at that opportunity. I love radio. A lot happened between then and now! Fast forward, I am now the full-time Midday radio personality and host for 97.7 The Beat of the Capital. I am also a new author, entrepreneur, and interactive media talent. I learned because I was a guest host on Dish Nation, which tapes out of Atlanta, is how I landed such a great opportunity to speak with your entity. I also recently enjoyed sitting down with the ladies of Sister Circle TV, which aired on TV One, before it was canceled.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can honestly say it hasn’t just been smooth but I have been blessed to work with a number of talented individuals in the industry who were open to helping me develop as a talent. I believe that was nothing but God moving on my behalf. I was always told to be myself more. Let your personality shine. I get excited when I work. Its an adrenaline rush. I welcome the challenges I have faced because they made me stronger. I will never forget when I went in for my first internship while in graduate school. I loved the female personality in the market and I listened to her everyday. She was very talented. I was excited. I remember the Program Director walking me into the studio, introducing us both, and telling her that I would be interning. I also remember as soon as he walked out, the door closed, and she looked at me very upset saying, “I don’t know why they brought you in here. I don’t even do interns!” Every day she gave me the cold shoulder but I was determined to learn. I didn’t let that destroy my spirits but I vowed to never treat another female coming into the industry like that in the future.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am my own brand. I had to learn that in the industry. You represent you. You are a walking billboard. I am full-time radio personality and host, Middays 10am-2pm on 97.7 The Beat of the Capital. I am also an event and television host, entertainment news reporter, author, entrepreneur, and overall interactive media talent. I invested in an online boutique as co-owner, called 5th and Sole, www.5thandsole.com. I also love fashion. I love helping people, which is one of the reasons for my latest book, Surrounded By Sin, Grounded By Love: 8 Simple Keys to Becoming a Better You!

I am extremely proud of that, but mostly because of the feedback I receive from helping and motivating others. I believe that’s priceless. I think we were meant to help and motivate other people. I try to do that in every role I carry. I’m proud of a number of moments in my career. I enjoy them all. I love guest hosting and filling in on Dish Nation. I love being around such a talented cast of personalities, where we can be ourselves. I love the energy on set. I was also guest host on the last season of Lifetime’s Bring It. Now that was fun too. I am a “vibe” and “energy” person. My sole job there as a host was to entertain the crowd, and bring the energy! Now, if you can entertain a gym full of hype kids, you’re on to something! It’s all been fun! I’m still having a good time and feel like I have yet to really “work” a day in my career! I’m passionate about everything I do. Passion drives me.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is happiness, Whether you find it within yourself, or find it in doing something you love! I am thankful I have both. The only thing is that when you seek happiness outside, it can be taken away. Success is not only making myself proud but also my parents. They have always been super supportive. Success is more personal for me. Its joy, happiness, and love. It’s being rich in things that money can’t buy. It’s being the inspiration and motivation behind someone who had lost hope or felt down on a rainy day. It’s the sunshine in the middle of someone’s storm. It’s someone’s peace in the middle of their chaos. It’s praying for someone who feels like he or she cannot pray for themselves. It’s helping someone heal when they feel broken. Success has many definitions but its personal for me and often rests upon the things and feelings money can’t buy. A certain type of success is priceless.
