Meet Tameka Hanley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tameka Hanley.

Hi Tameka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
If you would’ve told me two years ago, that I’ll be sitting up in my room (in Brandy’s voice) delivering an email to one of the most influential powerhouse production voices there is , I would’ve told you, you’re completely out of your mind. Me?  Believe in myself? Never. For many years, I didn’t imagine myself to be anyone other than just the black sheep of my family.  Yet I’m here today, at this very computer, declaring and manifesting a dream opportunity. Why?  I realized that I had a voice. Not just any voice, a powerful one, one that fear plagued for many years with doubt, and crippling limitations.

After several panic attacks, dozens of meetings with my book coach, and a classy launch party, I became a best selling author!

I am voice for the voiceless, I am an elementary school teacher here in the Atlanta area with a desire to empower and pour into the girls of this next generation, specifically in the black community. Because of that desire, I recently wrote a book titled “Fresh Princess of Bel Air ” based on the highly acclaimed series that really encourages girls, and empowers them as they are walking into their true identity.

Am I still afraid? Absolutely, but I remember that fear is the brains way of saying that there is something important for you to overcome. You see, that’s the thing about life, it’s infamous for taking us on journey’s in which we learn our very purpose. The question is, will you forget everything and run or will you face everything and rise?

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to authoring my first book baby was a challenging one. Just getting past the fear of judgment, and criticism alone was a challenge in itself. Nevertheless, after several month’s of talking myself out of my author journey, I decided to embrace it. So off I went, embarking on a marketing hunt, tearing through the web to find resources that ultimately turned me into a best selling author.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

Because of that desire, I recently wrote a book titled “Fresh Princess of Bel Air” based on the highly acclaimed series that really encourages girls, and empowers them as they are walking into their true identity. As an educator, in one of the toughest industries right now, I also wanted to give back to students. Although, my job is challenging right now, I see firsthand what my students face as they are trying to navigate through life. This story is really not about me, it is about highlighting a tool and a resource that will bring some laughter, fun, and even confidence to the young people that are facing so many obstacles, especially with mental health being a top concern.

I believe this story will deliver the resilience of a teacher to make a difference in the community, it will deliver a tool to schools, households, and communities that will also show some diversification in the libraries. Many books on our school shelfs show Caucasian characters, and I wanted to find something they could relate to while also feeding them some encouragement at the same time.

I am the voice for the voiceless!

What makes you happy?
Have you ever picked up a book, turned to the first page and almost instantly became that character? You start living that character’s life and start seeing what that character sees. That character’s pain is now your pain, and suddenly you find yourself engulfed into a different world. Well, that’s me. My passion to read literature has developed my imagination, paved my college career choice, and has inspired me to pour love and light into my students, creating stories that bring joy into the lives of our young girls and boys.
