Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Watson.
Tamika, before we jump into specific questions about the organization, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Her Love Clothing LLC is not only an urban clothing line but a movement. A movement to instill the empowerment of women and the love of self. A movement to let everyone know that we (women) are queens and should have the right to demand to be treated as such. I’ve always had a love for fashion. It was one of the ways I dealt with my self esteem. I would constantly tell myself that I may be fat and ugly, but I can dress. I had a special person in my life at the time who had self esteem that was out of this world. I admired the love she had for herself and longed for it. As I begin to explore different ways to express those desires, the obvious choice was through clothing.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been easy, but nothing easy is ever worth it!! The biggest in my obstacles have been to get people to read instead of assuming. People tend to see my sexuality and immediately assume that that is the focus of my brand. Alot of potential customers are hesitant to support instead of taking a minute to read a simple post or a business card.
We’d love to hear more about the organization.
Her love is more than a clothing line!! We do great a lot of work in the community. We donate to several causes, adopt a child during Christmas, giveaways for high school senior girls, coats drives, soap kitchens and so much more!!! The ultimate goal for Her Love as a whole is to not only become a household name in fashion, but we want to start a scholarship to a deserving high school senior. The clothing line itself caters to every style you could think of that a woman could possibly wear and come in every size imaginable. Her love is set apart from other brands because we are more than just a clothing line!!!!!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I am such a big sneaker head, and though my mother was the richest, she always made sure I had every pair of sneakers that I wanted. The best three were the Grant Hills, Rebecca Lobo’s & Sheryl Swoopes cause she told me that there was no way she could afford them and she made it happen for me!!!
