Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy McCloud.
Tammy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2013 as the months got closer to my daughter graduating high school and with only 3 more years left before my son graduates, I was looking for a lifestyle change. After being a single parent of 2 and living check to check for 17 years, working corporate office jobs, I did not want to be an empty nester clocking in and out every day, I needed college money and flexibility. I decided to get trained to learn eyelash extensions with my good friend Megan of JMegan Marie International DBA A Lash Lifestyle. Megan had been doing lash extensions for 6 years and had lash businesses in both Dallas and Atlanta at the time. On my first day of training in November 2013 as we began to go over the set-up of the lash room, I was so excited about this new journey. Immediately following training, I worked at A Lash Lifestyle on weekends, maintaining my full time corporate day job during the week. As my clientele started building, I would add a few weeknights at the salon. I knew I did not want to continue working both jobs for long so in September 2014 I left A Lash Lifestyle and started iLash Perfection, a mobile lash business. Fortunately, Megan gave me all of the files for the clientele I was servicing at her salon and most of them allowed me to come to their homes to service them. By April 2015, I grew my clientele enough with my mobile business to resign from my corporate job as a legal assistant. At that very time, I was contacted by celebrity MUA MiMi Johnson, whom asked me to be a part of her team in a studio she was opening the following month. I have been at The Glamatory servicing clients since May 2015 and am so excited to continue growing as I approach 4 years as a lash stylist and 3 years as a business owner.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth ride as I was working 7 days/week when I started doing lash extensions because I worked my corporate day job M-F and as a lash stylist on weekends. Then when I started servicing clients during the week in the evenings, most days I was extremely exhausted. I missed a lot of time with my children and family in the process of building a business. Along the way I have had to learn patience in dealing with clients. I have had to be stern with creating and enforcing my policies based on what is best for my business.
iLash Perfection – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in semi-permanent classic eyelash extensions as well as eyebrow waxing and tinting. I also train others to learn the craft of applying eyelash extensions. I am known for providing clients with professional and exceptional service and students with superior training. I’m most proud of having mastered the technique, designs and speed of applying lash extensions and by giving others an opportunity for a lifestyle change by training them. My passion, professionalism and skill sets me apart from others as I take pride in providing each client with a personalized experience.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as being comfortable with where you are in life. If you are comfortable in your own skin, your financial situation and your day-to-day life, that is successful to me. I plan to continue to learn and add more services to my menu to expand my business.
