Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanesha Lowe.
Tanesha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Pearl Unique Boutique is an accessories boutique for women of all shades. It’s a boutique that gives all women the level of confidence that they once didn’t have before. We take your plain styles and make them unique. My grandmother would always tell me, “compete with no one but yourself”. Starting my business three years ago started out as a hassle because I found that so many other people were doing the same type of business, but I knew I had to do something different to get my business out there. So I decided why do I need to have all of the same items when I can just have 1 item of the different pieces. This way, I knew I didn’t have any issues with any of the women worrying whether or not someone was getting the same items. This is what set me aside from a lot of other boutique owners. Then I decided I wanted to start selling the handbags as well and I knew this would be even harder because women are big on their handbags.
So I knew I had to do some really hard research to find the right suppliers that would sell me the best quality and unique bags they had. I started out with a really good supplier and then I noticed that I was seeing the same repeats that I had and I didn’t like this. This has definitely been one of my difficult moments in this business. I just had to step back and trust that God would supply all my needs for the boutique and that I just had to go back to the drawing board of my beginning vision. I knew that I didn’t want my customers to have the same items and I knew I wanted something unique, but what was I going to do about this. Well, as of November 2019, I will be launching my first custom made handbag and I have finally learned that no matter what obstacles come your way you have to hold on tight and take control or it will take over you. It has took me getting feelings hurt by people who I was close to that wouldn’t give me the advice I needed to help me get my business where it needs to be. I had to remind myself of my true purpose and follow my dream.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, this has not been a smooth road. I have had a lot of struggles from people turning me down about products, not giving me the advice I need to help me with the business. When I needed vendor contacts and I knew where to get them from it was like pulling teeth trying to get help. That didn’t stop me though, I just prayed and ask God to guide me through and connect me with the right people that will be for me and not against me. Not having a degree did not stop me from following my purpose and believing in myself when others sure didn’t. I learned how to fight with diversity.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pearl Unique Boutique LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business was established June 2016, three years after my grandmother passed away. I started my boutique in honor of my grandmother and this was also my therapy for mending a broken heart that had been shattered to pieces. I named the boutique after my grandmother who name was Pearl and she would always tell me to be my unique self and not like anyone else. That’s where the Unique came from. We specialize in pearl pieces and statement pieces. I want the women of all shades to know that when they step out into a crowd no matter what they have on when they put on our piece it will give the confidence like non other. I don’t care if you are in corporate America, sales associate, or just a stay at home mom, but when you step out with our pieces you are going to feel like the next Michelle Obama, Oprah, or Beyonce. LOL.
I am proud of my business today because I look at where I started from and where I am today. I see the growth and confidence that I didn’t have when I first started my business. I was afraid to be in a crowd, to do a video, to talk with corporate women. I didn’t think that I would be getting phone calls from some of my colleagues asking me can I help accessorize them for upcoming events. This is what I am very proud of and what sets my boutique apart from others is that we don’t repeat our products. So if you get something from my boutique today you will never see it again unless it’s a custom order, but as of December 2019 all our items will be custom made. This is what I call me leveling up with excellence.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best is this city has so many opportunities. I am from a little city called Bennetsville in South Carolina and we don’t have a lot to offer. When I left in 2013, I was very nervous and scared to be in this big city that I wanted to go back home. If I would have let my nervousness take over, I would not be where I am today and seen some of the great things I have seen thus far. Moving here has been nothing but great for me. I do miss home and my family and friends, but I know home can not give me what this city or any other city could when it comes to my dreams. What I don’t like about the city is that it’s too busy and the traffic is terrible. LOL
