Meet Tanisha Howard of Nisha D in Snellville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Howard.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My senior year in high school, I couldnt decide if I wanted to do psychology or cosmetology. I attended Clark Atlanta for a semester and couldn’t continue due to financial aid. So, I figured God had another plan in store for me. When I started cosmetology school in 2004 there were no financial aid issues. Everything paid in full (won’t he do it). After I graduated and obtained my license in 2005, I worked as an assistant at a well-known salon in Atlanta. There, I learned a lot about customer service, how to cater to my clients & how to run a business. After some unfortunate circumstances at that salon, I no longer felt that the beauty industry was for me. I started in corporate America and worked in an office for about 3 years before realizing hair was actually a passion and no matter what amount of discouragement anyone had for me I was going to make it happen. After all, the Lord didn’t bring me this far to leave me here.

Once I re-entered the industry with an ‘I must do whatever it takes attitude’, I was located in the Gwinnett (Snellville) area. I worked at a few salons before I realized I want to do this on my own but not on a large scale so I opened a salon suite. I ran my suite for about three years. During that time, I went from a small to a larger suite to accommodate the large number of referral clients that I would get. I also became a platform educator for the BEST education team on the planet… Patric Bradley’s Team Hollywood.

Currently, I’m working in a salon located in Snellville, GA and traveling educating other stylists & cosmetology students on hair coloring & cutting.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road??? Lord, NO! I’ve dealt with a lot of struggles that would have made anyone quit. However, would I have it any other way no! The struggles have made me who I am today.

What else should our readers know?
Nisha D is actually my nickname that my dad gave me. I am a hairstylist & platform educator that LOVES doing the color & cutting. However, I specialize in healthy hair. I can do a large number of services so I pride myself in being able to do EVERYTHING and making sure that the integrity of your hair remains intact.

I make sure that I dont overbook my clients. I am VERY mindful of my clients time. I show up early and I would like the same respect from my clients in return.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
After a year of tryouts and challenges, I made the education team that I currently work for. That entire weekend I’ll never forget!
