Tanjula, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Before I started Calming Scents, I was an exotic dancer in some of the biggest adult entertainment clubs in Atlanta, Ga, but I knew God had better plans for my life so I sat down with my stepmother and she asked me what I wanted to do outside of dancing, I had no clue. I just knew I wanted out, she gave me a dope idea and I went to hobby lobby and purchased a candle making kit and the rest was history and that day was the beginning of a new journey and the start of Calming Scents Candles and Accessories.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh Lord, no, the road for starting a business is never a breeze, there were many trials and tribulations from getting the best and boldest fragrances to finding the nicest jars, the best wicks and finding what wax is the best fit for my company and much more.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Calming scents candles and accessories story. Tell us more about the business.
Calming Scents Candles and Accessories is an online candle store but we also sell more than just candles, we sell wax melts, designer candles, pillar candles, air mist, and fragrance oils. I run and lead my company. I’m 110% hands-on, each and every order goes through me 1st before getting sent or being delivered to my clients. As a company, I’m most proud of how far the company has come, from no one knowing or trusting us to when you’re just out and about and people walk up to you saying I need candles or telling me about their experience or vibe with a candle that I personally hand-poured, that warms my heart and that’s a very proud moment for me every time. What sets calming scents aside from the rest is that LONG-LASTING, BOLD CALMING AROMA. That’s what Calming scents is all about.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck but I do believe in favor and grace and with God’s favor and grace, Calming Scents has grown far beyond my wildest dreams.
