Today we’d like to introduce you to Tariq Latchison.
Tariq, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started with my parents. My Dad is producer & artist aswell and he goes by Khalid Salaam. As a child I was always banging on his beat machines and keyboards so I was introduced to my love for creating music at the young age of 3-4. So much so that I made my 1st song at 5 and even had a beat or two. My mother gave me my knack for rhythm & creativity. She used to always make songs, whether it was for cleaning up my room or helping me study for some type of quiz, she was always making little songs to help me get through whatever I was doing, its crazy how it partly helped shape my sound today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My only struggles were myself. I quit producing a multitude of times due to me not having confidence in my sound, also trying to balance school, basketball, and music was quite difficult.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I produce, song write, engineer, and play a multitude of instruments. I’m most proud of my versatility as an artist and producer. There’s no beat or song I can’t make, I can make create any genre or style and it sounds authentic, whether its rap, techno, classical polka, you name it, I can make it. What’s sets me apart is my work ethic. If my friends or parents call me, nine times out of ten they’re going to see me in front of my laptop creating or in front of my desktop recording.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My charisma and my ability to adapt. Almost everyone I’ve met in my life, I’ve made a positive impact on, therefore making me a highly respected individual. I feel like that’s going to help me in the long run.
