Meet Tarique Ryans of 95 Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarique Ryans.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Bronx, NY. Around two years old, I lost my father due to gun violence. From there on, I had to learn to be a man on my own. Faced many challenges through the dangerous streets of NYC. I was even sent to military school from 8th to 11th grade and finished high school at eagle academy in the Bronx. Through all of that I managed to find a passion in music and to attend Morehouse college. My music and story affects kids all over. I’ve been leading workshops and performing at schools and other events just to show people that you can make it throughout all of life’s challenges.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a very tough ride. I’m a survivor of gun violence and a victim of gun violence through my father. I found myself slipping and feeling like I would never prevail through poverty, violence, school, and trying to improve my music, but I made it happen. My biggest thing was to not make excuses.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a hip hop and r&b artist by the name of Ty95. I am also the leader and co-founder of 95 entertainment, which is a label not focused on solely just music. I’m proud of the major improvements in my music and how it has grown and reached out to many other cities and countries across the globe other than New York and Atlanta. My music sets me apart from others because of my story. My music embodies my environment and everything that I’ve gone through or am going through.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, the support is getting stronger and stronger by the day. Especially for black entertainers and black-owned businesses. I would recommend people starting off here because of that.
