Today we’d like to introduce you to TaShawnie Hunter.
Hi TaShawnie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Hartsville, but I reside in Florence, SC. I wouldn’t say I was a shy kid but a very hyperactive and energetic one lol. I always wanted to be an actress ever since I was a little girl, watching classical and action films always amused me. My acting career first started in my church performing Christian plays through biblical stories. Doing plays throughout my middle school days and not only for my church, but many years of theatre in High school helped me with my memorization, reading scripts, and becoming immersed in each character(s). I was also voted Vice President in my Drama Class for my senior year of high school. So, people truly enjoyed seeing me perform. After I graduated, I joined Florence Little Theatre in my hometown playing roles like “Jack and the Beanstalk “as Jack’s Mother. At that moment my life took a complete turn for the better.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road for me has not been smooth at all. I’ve been teased growing up just for being me and having such a big personality. I almost gave up on my dreams and goals listening too other people and their views. Being a Black African American woman with a big heart and drive for success taught me a lot about people which was very challenging. But what motivated me to keep going was my thirst for wanting more in the acting industry. I had to realize at the end of the day, I’m not going to allow somebody or just anybody to drag me down. I want to be a voice for young people and speak the truth of pushing through real life’s issues and obstacles. Every day I continue to let God direct my path.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Aspiring Actress and I do a lot of voiceovers and self-tapes to help better myself. I’ve also played the supporting role in “Christmas In Carolina” as the “Assistant”, in my first ever film written by Stacie Davis. I’ve been blessed and I can say that I have really found my purpose in life- acting. This is what makes me happy and motivated to keep getting better, not only for myself, but for others. I also started my own YouTube Channel in 2017 by the name Shiny Shawn. I like to do my YouTube videos to show my creative side. I’m proud of having the opportunity for little girls to look up to me and realize no matter how small of a place you come from you can make it if you put in the hard work. What sets me apart from others, is my hunger for being the best I can be. I know that I must put in more work if I want to accomplish my goals. I will continue to be different and set a new path for my future.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A lot of people don’t know that I am a photographer, I enjoy capturing moments. So, editing pictures is what I am excellent in. What surprises people about this is my personality of being on camera and bringing exultation to people.
