Meet Tatyana Horrobin of Princess Tatyana’s Luxurious Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatyana Horrobin.

Tatyana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
If a prophet was to state that I would own a hair extensions business at the age of 19 while attending the illustrious Spelman College I would have extremely high doubts on his accuracy. Although I was known for being the girl who could honestly start a business out of anything, I would never assume that hair would be one of them. One would become shocked to know that my ultimate aspiration in life is to become an entertainment attorney. Yes, I know, the girl who sells hair wants to become a lawyer? Shocker. Nevertheless, let’s dive into how I started my business shall we. I delved into the world of hair at the age of 14. I wore extensions for the first time at my eighth grade graduation. I was never really someone who liked to wear their natural hair out, so hair extensions became an instant go-to for me. I remember trying to shop on various sites for good quality bundles, however, prices always seemed to surpass the budget in which I was given to spend by my parents.

As a result, I constantly found myself shopping on cheaper websites for “Luxurious Hair” at an affordable price. Being a high school student, attending an all-girls school at that, gave me a sense of freedom to want to try various styles. I wanted to do colors, long lengths, and different textures. However, money was always an issue. Prices were just TOOOOO high. I found myself becoming more and more aggravated at the fact that I could never purchase bundles that were of good quality and listed at a fair price. It wasn’t until after my sweet 16 when I thought to myself, why should I keep spending my money (my parent’s money) on hair that doesn’t meet my standards when I can just source and sell my own. I’m not going to lie, it took me a long time to believe in myself enough to start this business. But could you blame me? I was only 16 years old trying to build an empire that only 30-year-old women (at the time) were doing. The questions I constantly had to ask myself was, “ Why would anyone buy hair from me? And what will make me different from the rest?”

I knew that going into this business would be hard, but it would be ten times harder if I didn’t take the time out to educate myself on what exactly I’m branding. I took it upon myself to learn how to properly source good quality hair, along with becoming aware of how to care and manage for human hair. Fast forward to 2018, two years later, at the age of 18 when I was officially ready to license my business “Princess Tatyana’s Luxurious Hair”. I was extremely happy that I took the route that I did because that experience allowed me to understand the importance of patience and how it can make or break a business. I used my Instagram page to further build and expose my brand to those worldwide with promotional ads, influencers, and photoshoots. My social media platforms became dedicated to promoting hair extensions and lash strips. I knew that with owning my own hair extensions business that I would have to think outside of the box. I had to give people a reason to stop shopping with other companies and shop with mine while remembering the reason why I started. I wanted to show that purchasing top quality bundles at an affordable price is not a myth.

So, I made it my duty to stay true to the mission and to be original. I always came up with crazy photoshoot concepts, video shoots, and hair colors. I knew that I had to stand out from the rest, and the best way I could do that was by being my true self. I wanted to show people that selling hair to me was so much more than just making money. I love seeing people being able to express themselves with different styles, colors, textures, etc. Hair and lashes had given me a sense of freedom with my style and I want to give that to someone else. Now one year later after having my business licensed, I can proudly say that my business is flourishing. This past school year I was able to travel to China with my mother, where I was able to source my hair and handpick the bundles and wigs that I would have in my Luxurious Hair Collection. Being able to travel outside of the country to better my brand was a dream come true and I look forward to traveling elsewhere to expand my inventory as well. I got to where I am today with God’s amazing grace, my parent’s support, and my consistency.

Has it been a smooth road?
Everyone that knows me knows that I am extremely hard on myself. I want to have the best, be amongst the best, and provide the best. Owning my business while being in school has been far from easy. A lot of people, including myself, tend to forget that businesses take time to reach their peak. And there have been many times where I have been very impatient with my businesses success. I struggled with being positive when not as many sales were coming in. I struggled with the fact that even my friends didn’t support me. I honestly even struggled with my confidence. To be quite honest there were many times where I just wanted to give up and stop selling hair because I just felt as though it was no longer something that I was ” good at”. However, I just had to remind myself why I started in the first place and go ten times harder.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Princess Tatyana’s Luxurious Hair – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Princess Tatyana’s Luxurious Hair is a hair and lashes extensions company. My company provides top quality sourced hair along with 100% 3D Mink lash strips. We are known for staying true to our princesses and having all the best quality wigs, bundles, and frontals/closures. As the CEO, I am commonly known for my bold hairstyles and colors. I do this to help my clients get out of their shell. When it comes to trying new styles many may be fearful, but if they see someone else rock it, it’s more likely for one to get inspired to try it. What makes me most proud of my company would have be to be its growth. I remember just starting in New Jersey and being a local business, but now I am getting orders from France, England, California, Texas, Jamaica, and so many more places.

Although my business is nowhere close to where I want it to be, I am very happy that it has at least been reaching those worldwide. I think what sets my business apart from others is the easy access to the CEO, I am a very hands-on business owner and I love receiving feedback on how to improve my business. I am very open to suggestions and I am always ready to listen. Being that I am 19 years old, I find it important to sympathize with your clients. Nothing is worse than wanting to voice your opinion, good or bad, to a business and not getting the hands-on attention you deserve. Also, I believe that my product speaks for itself, hair is all based on preference, however our bundles, wigs, frontals, closures and lashes are like no other.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Atlanta is just a hub of success stories. You can honestly find someone that was in the same exact position as you are in and is now a millionaire. The access to opportunities are endless, from college campuses to large firms to film studios.

I also love that you don’t have to have it all figured out. Being in Atlanta inspires the youth to try it all and become involved. There is nothing that I don’t like about Atlanta. It has been so great to me thus far and I can not wait for the rest of the years to come.
