Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Made.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
ReparTay started because I’ve always been told I talk too much and that I should make a career out of it lol. No, but honestly, it was a dream that developed overtime. It started when I toured the journalism school at FAMU my freshman year. I wanted to be on the magazine staff but I had to ride my freshman year out as a sociology major. Once I got to Kennesaw State, I switched my major and joined the OWL Radio team. I did an internship at an online radio station and then wanted to create my own talk show after that. After three years, I finally did it. My mom came in my room while I was watching TV and yelled at me to get off of my behind and do what I said I was going to do. And now we’re on season 3!
Has it been a smooth road?
Getting started was a struggle. I didn’t have the equipment or the confidence. Overtime, I slowly started talking myself out of fear by saying, “just do it. If it fails, at least you tried!” The first season was only four episodes long. I wanted it to be ten but I cut it short to gauge the reception.
Season 2 was definitely a lot smoother. I felt more comfortable asking strangers for interviews. I even got recognized for my show at the Curl Fest while doing some interviews, so that was exciting!
Season 3 was an uphill battle. I had a hard time deciding what to do with the studio. I finally came into the money to buy some lights and a boom mic but truly had no idea how to use them (still kind of don’t but progress is progress, I’ll learn). Then, COVID came and shut everything down, making it hard to get interviews. I spent two weeks driving around gathering interviews. When I finally sat down and recorded all of the episodes and got ready to edit, my hard drive where they were located crashed, so I had to start over. It was a mess. But my friends know that one of my favorite quotes is “you saddle that horse, you gotta ride it,” and that’s what I did.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
ReparTay is a judgement-free show where real people can submit their questions and concerns and receive advice from real people in return. In this day and age, where our lives are constantly on display with social media, there needs to be a safe place where we can openly discuss what’s going on in our lives without the side-eye and ‘holier than thou” attitudes. That’s why it’s all anonymous. All we care about here is helping our brothers and sisters overcome their obstacles and celebrate with them as they do it. That’s why it’s always a part(a)y here!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next five years, I am going to keep focusing on making ReparTay a household name and one day syndicated. That’s the goal. Day or night. I don’t care. I just want the world to experience ReparTay. It’s so much fun not only for me but my ParTay People! I just want to continue to grow with them.
