Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Ri’chard.
Taylor, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in film almost ten years ago, working in production in various departments including directing, writing and distribution for a host of films since working as an intern at Urbanworld Films.
In 2001, as a student, I worked as a production assistant on the Academy Award-winning HBO documentary “Murder on a Sunday Morning”. From there I went on to work as an associate producer for AOL Time Warner in New Orleans, producing a television news magazine show on WB/UPN TV called “Where’s the music?”. Making it in the film business proved to be quite difficult in New Orleans, so I relocated to Atlanta, where sadly I didn’t get to do film initially. After about six years in corporate America, I left to pursue film, and wrote my first feature film, “The Final Project”. It was released theatrically in 2016 across the US and into international markets in 2017. It was difficult of course, but I always thought that when you wanted something bad enough, and you were willing to work hard enough…anything is possible. I’m a living testament to that school of thought.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. As with most things, starting out was difficult because it cost money to make films, especially features. The biggest struggle was getting the money to get my first project made. It was even more difficult because I’d never made a film before. I don’t think there was a more significant struggle for me than this.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about 3rd Fathom Films – what should we know?
I am a Film Director, Writer, and Producer. I specialize in horror/sci-fi/ and drama films. I am known currently for my feature film, “The Final Project,” and soon to be known for my upcoming feature film, “Hallowed Be Thy Name.” My partners and I own a production company called 3rd Fathom Films based here in Atlanta, and we are a one-stop-shop. We are able to take any project from script to screen. I think what sets us apart from others is our ability to fundraise and build great networks for getting projects completed.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are a lot of people who deserve credit for helping me realize my potential. But three people that I will never forget the role they played are my mother, who supported me in ways that only a mother can. She had my back when times seemed impossible. My business partner and co-writer, Zach Davis. The vision for all of this started with one conversation with him. We believed that it was possible to walk stake our claim to this life, and we were right. He made me believe and continues to reinforce the belief in me that I am where I’m supposed to be. Lastly, is my little brother Shawn Taylor. He is a warrior and a true businessman. He was out there with me day by day knocking on doors trying to raise funds for the first film. He never gave up, and he never let me either
