Meet Taylor Wilson of Gypsy Threads in Gainesville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Wilson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always loved fashion! Even in elementary school, I would make dresses and purses and pretend I was a fashion designer. In college, I majored in marketing but knew I still wanted to be connected to fashion in some way. I did my internship in Los Angeles at a showroom in the fashion district and loved it! When I got back to Georgia, I graduated college and started working some at America’s Mart during apparel markets. That’s when I met Suzanne, the former owner of Gypsy Threads. She wanted me to start doing marketing and social media for her boutique and I was thrilled! I started working for her in 2016. I eventually started managing the store as well, and by April 2019, she wanted to sell it to me! I jumped on the offer and have now owned the store for a little over a year. In December of 2019, I signed a lease to move the boutique to the Gainesville Square. We completely renovated a beautiful space and I can now call it my own!

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a great journey so far, but of course, there have been bumps along the way. The most notable being the struggle that all small business owners have faced this year. I renovated my new space during the months of January – March while still operating business as usual at the old location. I was so excited for the opening of the new store on the square, which was set to take place April 1st. That happened to be the week that everything shut down due to COVID-19. I was then closed for the next six weeks, but thanks to my amazing customers, I was still making sales through our website and social media! It was a tough time but I was lucky enough to make it through and had my doors open by mid-May!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gypsy Threads story. Tell us more about the business.
Gypsy Threads is a women’s boutique. We sell clothes and accessories, all with a little of a funky, boho vibe. Our customers range from high school and college girls to their mothers, to their grandmothers. It’s definitely more about the style than the age. We take pride in the quality of our items and also in our customer service. We definitely have a personal relationship with our customers and love helping them find the perfect look. We have several customers that will come in with a piece from their own closet and we will help them fit that piece to the perfect outfit!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The fashion industry is always evolving! So definitely we will always do our best to keep up with the trends that fit our city! Eventually, I would love to open a second location, but that’s down the road!
