Today we’d like to introduce you to Teandra Durham.

Hi Teandra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
This question always brings a smile to my face and I truly love sharing it so here we go. I became a part of the birthing world by simply showing up for my sister when she experienced her first pregnancy which was over 21 years ago. Whew no counting necessary lol let’s move on. At the time unbeknownst to me I was moving as what the world now knows as a doula. I believe it’s safe to say I operated more in the role of what I now know to be a postpartum doula as that is what was needed most during this moment. My sister and I continued navigating all these first experiences together learning so much along the way . It also gave us quiet moments to bond as sisters. Now let’s fast forward to 2025 my sister now has 6 children and an honorary doula operating in all the aspects of an unpaid doula 😂. On a more serious note though I truly believe that first pregnancy of my sister awakened a force within me that I had no clue existed. As time passed year by year pregnancy by pregnancy I was slowly feeding that calling that brings me here today. A good friend of mine became a certified doula and in the midst of her work felt compelled to share her experiences and also encourage me to explore the doula world for myself. I briefly pondered on the idea and reality hit me like a ton of bricks . I had a quick chat with myself and said heeeeeeyyy I’ve been doing this doula work let’s expand it to all my sisters. There were often times in my journey where I wondered what gift God instilled in me as I for sure knew it wasn’t signing…dancing..artistry and the list goes on. In all honestly not knowing what I was meant to do brought on boughts of sadness and confusion. I now work with so much gratitude for this gift of being a doula and showing up for my sisters with and understanding of whose I am and what I have been called to do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Many would think walking in your purpose gives a sense of ease however the journey has not been smooth and easy going by far. Most of my battles have been me against me. I would say fighting the idea of imposter syndrome was the hardest one to overcome and I still have my days. In this birthing world I would often wonder if I was enough as I have no medical background,extensive training in pediatric care, childbirth education,yoga, reiki, chiropractic care, the many talents of my counterparts are endless. I had to remind myself I have the resources to get whatever my client needs and I also have the ability to seek education in the things I don’t know. The reality is I’ll never know it all in any field and that’s ok as what I do know is how to ask for help and that makes me more than enough.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am certified birth doula. I assist those in their journey of motherhood rather for the first time or saddling up for another rodeo. This assistance incorporates physical, mental, and emotional support. To break it down even further I help my clients form a birth plan and we then prep their body to prepare to execute that plan to the best of her ability when the times comes to deliver life. In order to prepare we will implement a nutrition plan, an exercise plan, discuss support system, chiropractic care, pelvic floor therapy , pain management techniques, and much more.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Now the answer to this is going to be shocking and confusing for about 3 seconds. I don’t believe there is anything I DO that sets me apart from my doula sisters more so WHO I am. When my clients book with me and get that Zenfulbirths experience I not only think it but I feel it is a God given energy and experience that can’t be put int words. Hope the shock and confusion went away and the message is understood.
