Today we’d like to introduce you to Teferi Taylor.
Teferi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a Georgia Tech undergraduate student, pursuing my bachelors of science in electrical engineering, on an internship in Cupertino, CA. I picked up a camera from a local shop in preparation for a trip to Yosemite National Park with my roommates. I always had a passion for photography and buying my own camera was my first step to actually starting my own business around my hobby. I created Tektography once I returned back to Georgia and sought out local professional photographers and clients to build my experience and portfolio. My first model was one of my best friends, Nnamdi, and he was instrumental in building my diverse range of shots. Since starting in 2015, Tektography’s clientele has grown, capturing special moments such as proms, graduations, weddings, as well as personal photo shoots. After finishing my undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech, I invested more time and resources to build my business into a solidified Atlanta-based company, better known as Tektography.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every journey has challenges and obstacles to overcome. In my case, my challenge was trying to solidify myself and skill against the broad range of talented photographers based in Atlanta. In addition to creating my own niche within the market, gaining clientele was definitely a significant challenge. To overcome these challenges, I had to understand the power of honing my craft and networking. When I first started, I would advertise free shots as practice for myself as well as to learn the nuances of great photography. As my skill grew, I began to experiment with different shooting styles, angles, and lighting to create different types of photos. As a photographer, you are always learning ways to innovate and match your client’s vision. Exploring new locations, networking and taking the time to hone my skills provided me with the tools to continue to grow and satisfy customers.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tektography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Tektography is an Atlanta based photography company that focuses on delivering high-quality images and customer service to clients looking to create lasting memories during special times in their life. Whether it’s a prom, graduation or simply a personal photo shoot, Tektography wants to provide clients with great service and competitive pricing. As a company, Tektography is known for the quality of the photos that we produce, which is reflected in the referral clientele that we receive based on previous work and ability to satisfy past customers. I am most proud, however, of the versatility that Tektography demonstrates when aligning customer vision with a final product, regardless the occasion. The most important thing about taking any picture is that the customer’s vision and photographer’s creativity should converge. As a company, I think our success, which sets us apart from other companies, is our ability to consistently achieve that balance.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The main objective of any business is to increase the reach and size of its clientele in order to sustain itself. For Tektography, my main vision is to increase my clientele while not sacrificing the quality and service that we strive to deliver. My hope is that through growing Tektogrpahy’s clientele, I hope to expand and reach potential customers outside of the Atlanta area as my notoriety grows. In the short term, I am planning to secure an indoor location to conduct studio style shoots in controlled lighting conditions. Through accomplishing this, I hope to reach and access customers who want this style of shot for their photography needs. Additionally, I am looking at different strategies to continue to market the Tektography brand around Atlanta as well as to other customers nationwide.
