Today we’d like to introduce you to Tera Davidson, Jordan Doctor.
After graduating from Covenant College in 2012 and 2013, Tera and Jordan noticed a high demand for reliable house cleaners in the Lookout Mountain community so they started cleaning together and hired their first employees in 2014.
Since then, they have been delighted to have hired over 20 employees and contractors most of whom are also Covenant College students and alumnae. They serve over 50 clients in the Lookout Mountain and Chattanooga areas.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our biggest problem has been finding enough help to meet the overriding demand. We have been understaffed more often than not and have had to keep a waiting list for new clients. Despite these obstacles, we couldn’t be more thankful for everyone we work with. Our clients are fantastic because we can see how much they appreciate our work. Our managers and employees are happy to be part of a company that pays well and allows for a flexible schedule
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mountaintop Maids story. Tell us more about the business.
We offer regular and one time cleans for residential and commercial spaces. The majority of our clients are busy moms who need an extra hand with housework every other week. We have also done many clean ups for relators and their clients who are moving into a recently purchased home. We also clean for local offices on a regular basis. Mountaintop Maids offers a customizable cleaning service that includes a specific checklist for each regular client we serve. If one client only wants bathrooms and kitchen done each time, not a problem. If another client wants us to clean out her fridge, not a problem. We brag about our maids all the time. We like to say that we are the Chick-fil-a of house cleaning companies. Our maids are energetic, diligent, well-trained and physically capable to meet the demands of this labor-intensive job.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We have been lucky enough to have no debt or investors. We feel very lucky to have a board of advisors who are businessmen themselves and have helped us steer the company to success. The only form of marketing has been word-of-mouth and referrals from our customers and that has done the job for finding new clients.
