Today we’d like to introduce you to Terae DeWitt.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Terae. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my journey in the beauty industry as a nail technician. Once I completed my training and was licensed, I opened a hair and nail salon. It was at this time that I really began to take an interest in becoming a hairstylist. So I proceeded to go back to school and become a licensed cosmetologist. I have to say this was the best thing I could have done because this was the start of my career as a full-time Hair And Makeup Artist.
As a hairstylist, I began to see that there were so many avenues I could take in the industry. I was working in a salon but wanted to venture into freelance artistry. Early on I took an interest in working in television and film. It wasn’t long thereafter that I had a producer who gave me an opportunity to work on a show that was featured on the BET network. They liked my work so much that I became a regular for that show.
As time went by and more and more opportunities presented themselves, I expanded my training and became a Certified Makeup Artist and I have been apart of so many amazing projects. Mercedes Benz Miami Fashion Week, America’s Next Top Model Contestants, some of the best in photography, television, films, and commercials, I have also had incredible projects working with pageants, debutantes, brides and their bridal parties. Some celebrity clients are Free (106 & Park) Joseline Hernandez, Rasheeda, Karlie Redd, Erica Dixon, and many more. I have worked in Atlanta, Miami, San Diego, and cities in North Carolina. I absolutely love my everyday clients. They are extremely supportive of me in every way. Most of them have been with me since the beginning (literally), and I truly appreciate them. I have had a motto since the initiation of my career which is “I make YOU the celebrity, the one the world is watching.” I want each of my clients to have this experience.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I won’t say it’s been a smooth road but I have learned so much through every experience. One thing that I have learned is that there are a lot of individuals who will not help you along the way. I feel that some people have gotten burned in the business from individuals whom they were trying to help, so they trust no one. It’s really sad that situations like this happen because Atlanta is smaller than most may think and 9 times out of 10, you will cross paths again. So you have to be very careful in how you conduct your business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Terae DeWitt Hair And Makeup – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a full-time Award Winning Hairstylist and a Certified Makeup Artist. I offer a full range of services. I go from short to long hair, from a few extensions to creating full crowns or detachable units. I offer clean beauty or a more editorial look. I enjoy being creative so I don’t box myself into one category. I am constantly learning more and more and staying educated in my craft. Last year I began pursuing more bridal clients and booked over 15 weddings.
I am proud to run a business that operates on being ethical.
I am the artist who will service the client that most may not want because the job may appear to be too difficult, and I will make it look easy and flawless. I like to think of myself as the Game Changer.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I will continue to grow and evolve as a professional artist and build my brand. As an artist, I am accustomed to being behind the scenes making things happen. I am looking forward to being more visible. I will host training workshops both in person and through webinars. I am also anticipating the release of my first book. There are so many exciting things that are unfolding.
