Meet Teraneshia “Terri” Nash of Terri Nash Photo + Video in Smyrna/Vinings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teraneshia “Terri” Nash.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I remember becoming OBSESSED (no like seriously obsessed) with visual arts and media at a very early age. Analyzing music videos and burying myself in teen magazines were definitely two of my favorite past times growing up. I would tell myself that I’d be the next Hype Williams and that one day I’d also take Sway Calloway’s job at MTV… haha! But I would have never thought that my adolescent fixations would actually resurface in my life in the form of a career.

During the summer of 2007, I left my hometown of Macon, GA. to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Mass Media Arts from Clark Atlanta University.

I purchased my first DSLR camera in college. Renting cameras at school for assignments had always been such a hassle, so I decided to invest in my own. Soon after, I downloaded video editing software onto my laptop so that I could practice editing during my downtime. That extra effort helped me land an internship at a small production company. While interning there, I worked on the set of a Georgia Lottery commercial. I remember being extremely nervous but fascinated by everything that I was witnessing. By the end of the day, I had spilled two coffees, ruined a stack of call sheets, and had forgotten the producer’s name. It’s safe to say I was nervous. But I was eager to learn; eager to work. The 2nd AD (2nd Assistant Director) sensed that and told me to give him a call once I graduated if I was still interested in getting into the film business. After graduating, I quit my retail job and began hustling for freelance production assistant work. I wore many hats and worked on many sets as a PA. I became a little jack of all trades after a couple of years.

I currently work in the film industry as a freelance commercial coordinator, while maintaining my side hustle as a photographer & videographer.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Getting into the film business, especially as a freelancer, was NOT easy. I thank God that both of my parents supported my decision to pursue a non-traditional career. My dad was able to help me financially until I found my footing. It took alot of prayer, patience, and persistence. After some time, I had worked in just about every department except for Camera. For some reason, I couldn’t forge a path in. That inspired me to do my own camera work on the side.

Terri Nash Photo + Video – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Terri Nash Photo + Video specializes in… you guessed it… photography and videography! I’m known for portrait, lifestyle, and event photography, and also short form videography.

I’m most proud of the fact that people trust me to capture moments in their lives and bring their creative visions to life. It’s a rewarding feeling, really.

Professionally, I’ve had my hand in just about every aspect of film production. That’s definitely shaped my creative abilities and insight. I’ve got the eye, and I’ve got the knowledge.
