Today we’d like to introduce you to Terroll Fields.
Hi Terroll, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I printed my 1st Fly Boy t-shirt in New Orleans, La., October 2006 with the idea of wanting to start my own clothing brand. I then moved to Miami, FL., September 2007 with intentions to make a name & noise in the 305, which I had made my new home. After getting my 1st set of t-shirts printed in Miami, I still felt like the stencil design I did wasn’t enough to capture the eyes of the world. Shortly after settling in I connected with a Music Producer/Graphic Designer, who showed me how industries work the behind the scenes of “The Little Red Door”. I call it “TLRD” because once he exposed me to how companies/businesses operate everything in-house, I couldn’t go back to looking at buying things like a normal individual again.
I reached out to him in help of designing me a better-branded logo for my company, and in less than a week he designed & delivered The Logo today that has been seen all over the world. I knew right then and there that I would make Millions from what my $175 paid for. I then shortly offered my Miami protege a designing partnership with my company, but unfortunately he turned it down due to his career he had, designing Wheels/Rims for some of the world’s most known car companies on the planet that has been featured in magazines for over 10 years now. He suggested that I learn how to grow into graphic/fashion designing and use the software Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop because “Shit comes easy to me anyways”, that’s what he stated, and I did just that. I put 100’s of hours into videos & tutorials from YouTube and achieved a skill I never knew I had.
I knew it wouldn’t be difficult to fit in and stand out in the fashion world, after all, New Orleans is the home of “Color Coordinating Your Outfit(s) From Head to Toe”, and the word “Fly Boy” is something I was always called every time I stepped outside; so my new pronounced skill was ready to be put to use. I gained tons of respect in Miami from my Musical Lyrics to my Freshest Outfits. I was seen in from South Beach to The Florida Keys for 3.5 years, then I made a transition to jump the coast to Las Vegas, Nevada in September 2012.
After sparking the flame in Miami, FL., I knew taking on and over Las Vegas would be a piece of cake. And here I am today, walking into 2023 as a well-known respected brand and household name to many customers/clients, with a portfolio of designing and manufacturing for 50+ businesses worldwide.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been a constant rollercoaster ride since the steady focus of moving forward with Fly Boy TCF Clothing. From being sued 1 year, to losing my closest cousin to violence a few years later, to a 2nd lawsuit immediately following the loss of my cousin, then a 2nd divorce not long after; followed by my kid’s rejecting me and everything that I’ve built for them. I felt like what seemed to be working out just fine was all a dream that I had awaken from and that the reality of my life was a nightmare. As much as I would mentor others about not giving up, no matter what kind of curve balls life throws their way, I was surely headed to throwing in the towel and leaving it all behind. I used to hide my pain behind my smile only because everyone that knew of me have always knew me to be very strong when encountering tough situations. Then one day I heard the voice of my cousin telling me that “I came from a place where nothing for me was ever promised, but I managed to make shit happen everywhere I went”.
So I knew I had to get up and continue my journey where I left off; and now I’m back as if I left something in the sofa cushion. Nothing about my vision has changed, in fact, these events only taught me that “No Weapon Formed Against Me Shall Prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Self Taught, Self Made Millionaire. I taught myself how to design clothing, logos, build brands, and most importantly, sell myself to the eyes of the public. My specialty is building brands and coaching new entrepreneurs on how to get started and what it takes to become a Brand in any industry.
Overall I’m known for designing and creating some of the Flyest Snapback/Fitted Hats known to the fashion industry. In fact, my hat designs have been surfacing from events like picture collaborations from Coachella goers to a Brand Ambassador that models for Rihanna’s Fenty Line.
There are so many accomplishments that I’m very proud of, but my most proudest moment was picking up my very 1st designing project in November 2021 for a Former NASCAR Driver and his family-owned multimillion-dollar business. I sold them on my very first Racing Style Jersey that I designed for my brand, and now I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary as their uniform designer.
The thing that sets me apart from other clothing brands is that “I Don’t Follow Trends, I Create Em”. Staying in my own lane is like telling Lil Wayne not to Freestyle ova another Artist’s Original Track(s) (No Ceilings) 😁.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid-19 will forever be “Salt Thrown On A Freshly Cut Open Wound For Me”. April 1, 2019 was the rising of a success for one of my products I just launched (Fly Boy REVITALIZE Water). And shortly after, April 7, 2019 (6 days later), my water brand made it to the top shelf of a Global Franchise Business “7Eleven”. Being introduced to the owner of 1 of 2 7Eleven locations, I had a meet and greet meeting with him on April 3, 2019, to discuss pricing and possibilities, and immediately after he saw that my product passed his 21-point inspection as a top-shelf item, we signed off on some paperwork the same day, and my REVITALIZE Water was stocked in his cooler on the top shelf 4 days later (April 7, 2019).
Sales started off slow and then increased as a few months had gone by. Low and behold, not long after, Covid-19 came and claimed victory over a Win I just encountered. With some businesses closing, shutting down, going out of business, and store shelves being completely out of stock of Water, I still managed to have an advantage for myself. Being able to create water sales from my garage, doing daily deliveries to customers that couldn’t leave their homes in search to keep their homes stocked with water still turned out to be a blessing.
And even tho after the world slowly started to open up again, we lost the business of continuing to stay on the shelf of our 1st 7Eleven location due to every business taking a loss.
If there’s nothing else I learned in life, Covid-19 taught me that I found a product that the world can’t live without, and that product made me feel like it will continue to have a connection everyone else will appreciate, especially during a crisis.
